The Public Authorities Platform met on 4 February 2010 at the ERTICO offices in Brussels.

The meeting chaired by Jordan Giddings from the UK Department for Transport was extremely well attended with nearly 40 participants including representatives from 17 of our Public Authorities Partners.  We were also delighted to be able to welcome Edgar Thielmann from DG TREN and Emilio Dávila González from DG INFSO as well as Dieter-Lebrecht Koch from the European Parliament.

Mr Thielmann gave an update on the status of the ITS Directive Proposal presenting the priority actions and the specifications which are currently under discussion with the European Parliament and the Council.  He assured the Public Authorities that all stakeholders would be included in the discussions. Mr Dávila González then presented the next steps regarding the deployment of eCall explaining the role of the European eCall Implementation Platform and its task forces as well as the launching of eCall Pre-deployment pilots.  There followed a discussion where the Public Authorities had the valuable opportunity to share their ideas for future developments with the Commission.

Other contributions were made by Thomas Kusche from Westdeutscher Rundfunk who gave a presentation on a traffic telematics project in North Rhine Westphalia and also by Marja van Strien who enlightened the audience as regards the National Data Warehouse for traffic information in the Netherlands.

Finally there was a wide ranging interactive discussion following the presentation from Paul Kompfner Head of Sector CooperativeMobility at ERTICO – ITS Europe where Public Authorities were able to give feedback on their countries’ respective policy objectives regarding Cooperative Mobility Services.  It was agreed that the Public Authorities can play a vital role in providing the link between the different stakeholders.  It was concluded that the Public Authorities would articulate questions relating to the deployment of Cooperative Mobility Services which would be shared with the key cooperative mobility stakeholders.

The ERTICO Public Authorities Platform consists of Public Authorities at a local regional or national level who want to promote ITS in Europe together with other ITS stakeholders.  It meets twice a year to identify and support activities requiring public authority involvement as well as to exchange information on national ITS developments.
