The Bulgarian capital of Sofia is planning to revolutionise its public transport with the introduction of smart e-ticketing.

The new system, which will cost about 80 million Bulgarian lev (€40.9 million), would remove paper tickets and ticket validators from the city’s public transport.

The Sofia Urban Mobility Centre, the municipal company in charge of public transport, said that it will select the company to carry out the project in summer 2017. The project is planned for completion in 2019.
