The event was held on 21 February in Beijing at the Science Technology and Environment section of the European Union Delegation to China and Mongolia with the support of EURAXESS Links China. Focusing on knowledge sharing between China and Europe about urbanisation research activities the meeting gathered approximately 60 stakeholders from both sides.

The meeting aimed at shaping concrete ideas to support a more coordinated European approach to the cooperation between EU and China following the decisions on urbanisation matters adopted during the EU-China summit held on 14 February 2012.

EU-China Partnership has been approved as a perfect platform to foster the discussion on urbanisation-related issues and to develop the cooperation between China and EU. The meeting mapped the different initiatives and activities identified any remaining gaps and potential synergies.

In this context Viajeo a European FP7 project actively participated in the discussions under the topic “Mass transit systems in cities and electric mobility”. This participation through representatives from Thetis the leader of Beijing demo site and Beijing Transportation Research Centre (BTRC) a key partner of Beijing demo site helped to feed discussions aiming to strengthen the EU-China Partnership in urbanisation research.

Important results have emerged leading to the implementation of the Partnership in urbanisation research and the next steps will potentially contribute to maximise the benefits of this cooperation.
