SUMMARY:Intelligent Transport Systems: a Tool or a Toy?
DESCRIPTION:This conference is co-organised between the COST Association and the University of Žilina\, the latter as European Research Area (ERA) Chair (ERAdiate project) on International Transport Systems (ITS)\, and is held under the auspices of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. \n            \nThe aim of this event is to bring special attention to the role of research organisations in providing evidence to the policy makers for shaping the right ecosystem in ITS\, and to the role of the industry\, and in particular small and medium enterprises (SMEs)\, in delivering innovative\, sustainable and interoperable solutions. Particular attention will be given to two important pillars of future mobility: Autonomous driving and Mobility as a Service (MaaS). \nThis two-day conference will take place in the context of a new legal framework (Directive 2010/40/EU) that was adopted by the European Union on 07 July 2010\, to accelerate the deployment of the ITS across Europe. \nAccording to the European Commission’s White Paper on Transport\, new forms of mobility have to be proposed for overcoming reliability\, environmental safety and affordability issues towards sustainable solutions for the transport of people and goods. DESCRIPTION:On Thursday 23 February 2017 at 14:00 – 15:00 CET\, the Smart Procurement for Better Transport project will be hosting a webinar entitled “Delivering Transport Projects through Cooperation: the Alliance Model”. \nObjectives \n\nTo introduce the Alliance Model as an effective contract model for delivering transport projects\nTo discuss the benefits of the Alliance model in comparison to traditional frameworks in innovative transport projects and how to adopt this model for other types of transport project\n\nWho should attend \n\nPublic procurers such as national\, regional and city administrators\, road operators;\nTransport engineers and system suppliers;\nUniversities and researchers\n\nDescription\nTampere is a growing city driven by innovation and high-tech industry. Tampere’s innovation has also been applied to the contract of a major transport project in the city. The Rantatunneli tunnel in Tampere is under construction using the ‘Alliance Model’ of public procurement. This means the traditional customer-service provider model has been eliminated\, allowing involved parties to cooperate in the planning and implementing of the project. The alliance members are the City of Tampere\, the Finnish Transport Agency\, Lemminkäinen\, A-Insinöörit\, and Saanio & Riekkola. As a result of this cooperation\, the alliance members have been able to reduce disruptions caused by the worksite while cutting costs and speeding up processes. DESCRIPTION:The European Commission\, with the support of the EC-funded projects CARTRE and SCOUT\, is pleased to announce its First European Conference on connected and automated driving: ‘Connected and Automated Driving – Together\, shaping the future‘. \nThe high-level conference will be held in Brussels on the 3rd and 4th April 2017. SUMMARY:BigDataEurope and the Societal Challenge on Transport
DESCRIPTION:BigDataEurope is a project within the EU’s Horizon 2020 framework programme aiming to build a knowledge- and innovation-based society and to strengthen the competitiveness of Europe’s economy. The project started in 2015 and will culminate at the end of 2017. \nBigDataEurope has developed and provides an integrated stack of tools to manipulate\, publish and use large-scale data resources. These tools are freely accessible to all\, including those with minimal knowledge of the technologies involved\, and have already been installed in customised data processing chains. The Big Data Integrator Platform is a key outcome of the Big Data Europe project. It is an ecosystem of specifications and reference implementations that are attractive to both current players and newcomers from all parts of the data value chain. \nAt the core of the BigDataEurope project are seven societal challenges or focus areas – health\, food\, energy\, transport\, climate\, social sciences\, and security. Transport is societal challenge 4 (SC4) and contributes to smarter\, safer\, and cleaner transport\, using beyond-state-of-the-art data solutions and giving rise to a European leadership for new mobility services. \nThe workshop will demonstrate the value of the recently launched Platform by showcasing the pilot\, and aim to collect feedback from stakeholders requiring transport solutions on how the platform can be extended to increase its value and facilitate further applications. SUMMARY:C-MobILE stakeholders workshop: needs and requirements for large scale C-ITS deployment
DESCRIPTION:When: 23 November\, 2017\, from 9:30 to 17:30 CET \nWhere: Bilbao\, Spain \nC-MobILE (Accelerating C-ITS Mobility Innovation and depLoyment in Europe) is a European project deploying cooperative intelligent transport systems and services (C-ITS) designed to deal with mobility challenges in several cities across Europe. The project aims to help local authorities deploy the C-ITS services they need and to engage with stakeholders and road users by assessing benefits against costs. \nC-MobILE’s vision is of a European road network which is safer\, more efficient\, more sustainable and economically viable while minimising environmental impacts and protecting vulnerable road users. \nTo realise this vision\, the first step is to develop a better understanding of the vision and priorities of public authorities as well as the needs and requirements of end-users and key stakeholders. The C-MobILE consortium has already completed a preliminary analysis of existing deployments in several European cities and gathered feedback from local actors and targeted stakeholder groups via an online C-ITS survey. \nThis workshop will bring public authorities\, end-users and key stakeholders together to define technical and non-technical requirements for C-ITS services and how best to ‘bundle’ the various applications so that they provide better value for money. By bringing key transport and mobility stakeholders around the same table\, the C-MobILE consortium intends to establish strong partnerships and ultimately achieve sustainable large scale deployments of C-ITS services. SUMMARY:5G Corridors Workshop 2023
DESCRIPTION:On 10 October\, in Brussels\, the GUIDE project\, in collaboration with the European Commission and with the support of the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA)  and DG Connect\, is set to host a significant face-to-face workshop aimed at advancing the deployment of 5G corridors across Europe. Coen Bresser\, Senior Manager at ERTICO and ERTICO lead of the project will moderate a roundtable on lessons learnt from study to deployment with CEF 5G Corridor Project Coordinators. \nThe event is poised to review and discuss the two 5G Strategic Deployment Agendas published in 2020 concerning the fields of rail and road providing invaluable guidance to ongoing 5G corridor deployment efforts\, with active participation expected from both the public and private sectors. The event also seeks to foster collaboration and stimulate the development of EU-funded projects in the 5G corridor space. The workshop will build upon the foundation laid by the CEF Digital Call 1 projects and actively engage stakeholders in strategic dialogues with the aim of defining priority deployment roadmaps and exploring various cooperation models. Additionally\, the event will serve as a platform for sharing best practices and lessons learned from ongoing initiatives. \nThe deployment of 5G cross-border corridors along key transportation routes within Europe holds promise for the region’s green and digital transformation. In particular\, the implementation of 5G-enabled Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) is viewed as a catalyst for enhancing transport safety\, optimising traffic management\, reducing CO₂ emissions\, and boosting industrial competitiveness across all transportation and mobility sectors.
