SUMMARY:Interactive Symposium on Research & Innovation for Connected and Automated Driving in Europe
DESCRIPTION:Increased connectivity and automation are major trends expected to shape the future of road transport and impact our quality of life. They hold the promise of addressing many of the major challenges facing Europe’s transport system today. Upcoming innovations in connected and automated driving will create a plethora of opportunities\, but also bring their fair share of challenges each requiring further research in the areas of safety\, urban mobility\, security & privacy\, regulation\, physical & digital infrastructure\, validation\, etc. \nThe European Conference on Connected and Automated Driving\, which was successfully organised by the European Commission in April 2017\, gave an insight into the main challenges on the way to deploy connected and automated cars on our roads. As a follow-up to the Conference\, the CARTRE and SCOUT initiatives* are co-organising an Interactive Symposium on Research & Innovation for Connected and Automated Driving in Europe\, in conjunction with the TRA Conference in Vienna. \nThe event is supported by the European Commission as well as the ERTRAC European Technology Platform. It will start after the closing ceremony of TRA. Complementary to the Connected & Automated Transport topic stream at TRA\, it aims to delve deeper into R&I activities in Europe. \nThis event is targeted at public and private stakeholders in road transport\, interested in exchanging views on how to shape the future of connected and automated driving in specific thematic areas. \nRegistration to the Symposium is free of charge and is available at this link.

SUMMARY:ITF - International Transport Forum
DESCRIPTION:The 2018 Summit on “Transport Safety and Security” will address issues ranging from terrorism and cyber-security to road safety and extreme weather disruption\, including the risks and benefits of automated driving. Safety and security are core concerns for transport. A transport system that is safe and secure enables passengers to travel without fear and allows businesses to ship goods reliably and efficiently. SUMMARY:Registration deadline for event on IoT services for automated vehicles
DESCRIPTION:The Internet of Things (IoT) is still a new and captivating concept\, with all the different kinds of sensors and the bountiful amounts of data. However\, when it comes to automated driving\, can IoT bring an added advantage and have a valid business case? The AUTOPILOT project aims to prove that IoT can advance automated driving in great big strides. We are convinced of the potential of IoT\, but we would appreciate an opportunity to debate with you. Join us this June in Tampere! \nIn Tampere\, we will show you AUTOPILOT’s automated valet parking functionalities in hands-on demonstrations and later ask you about your impressions. We will host a workshop to talk about the business cases\, as well as the opportunities and challenges that AUTOPILOT could face in coming to the market. You will be able to learn about the Internet of Things\, new potential business cases\, and share your views with us. \nRegardless of whether you are already convinced of the potential of IoT or need some persuading\, let’s together make Tampere the place to be this summer for riveting discussions on the future of automated driving! We would\, in particular\, value participation from local stakeholders\, including city authorities\, public transport providers\, and SMEs. \nClick here for contact information and the agenda. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:2nd Symposium on Management of Future motorway and urban Traffic Systems
DESCRIPTION:The Symposium will focus on future traffic management systems\, covering the subjects of traffic control\, estimation\, and modelling of motorway and urban networks\, with particular emphasis on the presence of advanced vehicle communication and automation technologies. As connectivity and automation are being progressively introduced in our transport and mobility systems\, there is indeed a growing need to understand the implications and opportunities for an enhanced traffic management as well as to identify innovative ways and tools to optimise traffic efficiency. In particular the debate on centralized versus decentralized traffic management in the presence of connected and automated vehicles has started attracting the attention of the research community. In this context\, the Symposium will provide a remarkable opportunity to share novel ideas and discuss future research directions. \nMore information is available on the official website.

SUMMARY:Towards a sustainable European transport system: investing in clean and innovative solutions
DESCRIPTION:Transport is a key sector contributing significantly to the European economy\, accounting for 4.8% of European Union gross value and providing eleven million jobs. Notwithstanding the important economic benefits\, transport is responsible for a third of all energy consumption in the European Environment Agency territory and for more than 25% of greenhouse gas emissions\, with aviation activities being the leading source of polluters. \nThis timely international symposium organised in the light the Year of Multimodality will provide an opportunity to look into the first stages of the Mobility package implementation. The delegates will exchange views on the clean transportation possibilities\, alternative fuels\, and benefits of decreasing space for cars\, and share best practice of successful models and projects implemented in other member states. \nFor more information and to view the agenda\, click here. \nTo register\, click here.

SPICE supports the process of bringing potential partners together to shape and initiate cooperation. SPICE can organise the first meetings or offer advice on how and on which parts of the procurement process to cooperate on\, or just provide a forum to discuss common issues and learn from one another. \nMaterial: \nPlease visit SPICE library: http://spice-project.eu/spice-library/ \nContact person: \nPiia Karjalainen\, Senior Manager\, ERTICO – ITS Europe\, p.karjalainen@mail.ertico.com

SUMMARY:FOCUS ON Workshop: IoT Open Data Access
DESCRIPTION:On 4 September\, ERTICO is co-organising the workshop “IoT open data access to advance mobility in European cities: how can we achieve it?” in collaboration with the European Commission\, AIOTI\, Open & Agile Smart Cities and Big Data Value Association on the integration of Big Data and IoT platforms\, which is leading to new data-driven business models and has the power to transform Europe’s industry. \nYou can view the Agenda here.  \nDon’t miss the chance to learn more about mobility of the future\, register now! \nCompanies are gaining impressive new  means to innovate and develop the next generation of products and services. Europe cannot afford to miss this opportunity. The EU’s emphasis on digital technology and digital platforms developed in Europe should rival that of other world regions so that it stays ahead of the curve. \nTo secure the EU’s leadership on Big Data and IoT\, several challenges need to be addressed: \n\nTechnical challenges like interoperability\, scalability and platform technologies\nAwareness challenges across the industry\, such as the benefits of data driven models\nPolicy challenges\, particularly access to data\n\nThe workshop focuses on the IoT benefits for smart mobility. It includes insights about IoT solutions for smart mobility and emphasises the huge potential IoT has for developing new connected automated mobility (CAM) paradigms by focusing on the long-term target outcome and working backwards towards immediate actions needed. \nThe workshop underlines the importance of access to data in value creation. In the workshop\, access to data will be assessed on the one hand from the angle of business agreements based on a win/win approach and private public/interest concepts and on the other hand from the angle of a technical semantics interoperability (via a common ontology shared with other sectors) as a converging framework. Existing and upcoming EU data policy and legislation will be explored to define the role of regulation and its impact on access to data. The requirements for harmonious integration of the mobility solutions in the interoperable ecosystem for cities will also be discussed. \nFinally\, the feasibility of an EU platform initiative for Open Data Access will be explored. This prospective EU platform will first aim to answer the needs of the demand side\, as it is likely to be more pro-active than the supply side for open access to data. \nWHO IS IT FOR?\nAll key sectors involved in the Big Data and Mobility value chain will be invited to attend\, including but not limited to: \n\nTelecoms: MNOs\, manufacturers\, Cloud platforms and solutions’ developers and providers\nMobility solution and platform developers\, Mobility service operators\, convergent companies covering several sectors\nData Protection agencies – relevant public authorities\nStakeholder associations\n\nClick here to register. \nThe participation in the workshop is free of charge but a registration is required. Due to the limited number of seats\, an email confirming you registration will be sent to you.
