SUMMARY:European Mobility Week
DESCRIPTION:Cities and towns across Europe and beyond are encouraged to make a real difference to mobility in their area by signing up and taking part inEuropean Mobility Week 2013. \nThe campaign is an excellent opportunity to promote sustainable mobility to citizens\, enact a new measure related to better public transport\, and to progress towards a more sustainable\, efficient and pleasant mobility culture. Registration can be completed online and each registered city is displayed on the European Mobility Week website. \nAll local authorities that represent a town or city are invited to get involved. Last year’s campaign saw a total of 2\,158 cities from 39 countries register their participation. \nTo be eligible\, the registering authority must comply with a charter drawn up in consultation with various national European partners. Alternatively\, where appropriate\, a charter that has been adapted to the national constraints of a country is acceptable. \nBy signing the charter\, cities commit to three measures: to organise a week of activities around this year’s theme “Clean air – it’s your move!”\, to implement at least one new permanent measure which contributes to modal transfer from the private car to an environmentally sound means of transport\, and to set aside one or several areas that are reserved solely for pedestrians\, cyclists and public transport for at least one whole day (“In Town Without My Car” day). \nNon-commercial organisations operating at EU level can also get involved by becoming an Associated Partner. Associated Partners contribute to the success of the campaign by promoting and supporting participation\, sharing their expertise and involving their members or member associations. \nThis year\, the campaign will focus on cleaning our air through better mobility choices. Under the theme “Clean air – it’s your move!” the link between mobility and air quality will be explored\, as well as the myriad health and environmental benefits that come with lowering urban air pollution. More information on this year’s theme is available in the Thematic Guidelines 2013. \nTo register\, click here.

SUMMARY:Global Smart City China Congress & Award
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Global Smart City China Congress & Award \nGlobal Smart City China Congress & Award will serve as a platform for all the stakeholders involved in smart cities to disseminate\, share and exchange information\, make new collaborations\, and work together to discover and expand business opportunities. \nInfo: By the middle of the 21st century\, it is estimated that the urban population will almost double\, increasing from approximately 3.4 billion in 2009 to 6.4 billion in 2050\, representing 70% of the world’s population. The scale of urbanization is unprecedented and the process is still ongoing across the Asia Pacific region and the globe. Cities will be at the heart of world development in the next few decades. Nevertheless\, this urban world comes with a complex set of environmental\, economic and social challenges: climate change\, high consumption of energy\, depleting of natural resources\, slowdown in economic development and higher demands from citizens for better services and greater participation in public decision. In this context\, government and business leader came to the realization that cities must take the lead to keep pace with rapid technological change\, and create networks that connect people\, knowledge and services. If we fully utilize the range of technologies that are now available and build smarter cities\, we will not only find solutions to age‐old issues but also break through into new thresholds of development. \nVisit the website for further information:  http://www.szwgroup.com/2013/smartcity/index.asp

SUMMARY:Open LR Information Session
DESCRIPTION:We would be delighted if you could join us at the OpenLR Information Session in Bergisch Gladbach\, Germany on 29th October 2013. \nThe OpenLR community are hosting an information session to discuss the characteristics of OpenLR -the most widely adopted on-the-fly location referencing system that is compatible with any navigable digital map. \nAutomotive manufacturers\, national and regional governments\, radio broadcasters\, navigation application manufacturers as well as traffic information service providers have recognised the limitations of other location referencing systems – most noticeably TMC. Although several attempts have been made to provide an alternative that addresses the issues\, none of them has so far been as widely adopted as OpenLR. \nThe event will address the key commercial and technical issues for service providers and traffic information users such as• Why should I integrate OpenLR if I already have a TMC location referencing system?• Is OpenLR really available for free use?• What are the IP limitations of OpenLR?• What are the risks of OpenLR infringing other on-the-fly location referencing patents?• Is OpenLR processor-hungry at server or device level?• How does OpenLR compare to the promoted alternatives such as Agora-C or ULR?• What tools and support is available to integrate OpenLR in my service? \nThere will be several speakers from the various user organisations (across different countries and industries) to share their experiences\, and we hope the day will be informative and offer networking opportunities for organisations that share the same objective of offering excellent traffic information services to their customers.

SUMMARY:CGI Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The objective of Live Land is to improve the forecasting\, monitoring and alerting of landslide and subsidence hazards across transport networks. Live Land improves intelligent forecasting of landslide through the incorporation of forecast and real time meteorological data and geological modelling. This capability allows landslide hazard susceptibility to be assessed across transport networks. Live Land incorporates a ‘catalogue’ concept\, of enabling technologies (in–‐situ and from Space) that could improve the prediction\, monitoring and alerting of Landslides and Subsidence. Intelligent prediction is coupled with tailored monitoring technologies\, including the development of low cost GNSS modules\, and a suite of alerting technologies / services will provide users with the intelligence to access and manage hazards. \nThe project is driven by the needs and requirements of Network Rail (Scotland)\, Transport Scotland\, Czech Republic Road and Motorway Directorate and the Norwegian Public Road Administration. \nCGI invite you to a webinar Wednesday 9th October 14:00-16:00 presenting the results of the Live Land Feasibility Study for ESA evaluating the role and added value of space assets in improving the monitoring and forecasting of landslides and subsidence affecting transportation. \nThe event will be of interest to owners and operators of transport infrastructure who operate in areas susceptible to landslide and subsidence hazards \nLive Land is a European Space Agency funded project under the Integrated Applications Promotion Program.

SUMMARY:ITS World Congress
DESCRIPTION:ITS World Congress 2013: “Open ITS to the Next” \nITS is expanding into the next stage of mobility and society. \nStarting with safety and traffic management as basic concerns\, ITS is reaching out to three new domains: energy management\, personalized mobility services navigated by big data\, and resilient transport systems. The first two stem from the emergence of electrified vehicles and continuously advancing ICT technologies\, and the third concept of resilient transport has become very important since the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. At the same time\, mobility in mega cities/regions is a major issue to be addressed in emerging economies\, especially in Asia. \nOpen has been adopted as the key word for expanding the potential of ITS: open platforms for basic concerns\, and open connectivity\, opportunities and collaboration for the three new domains. \n http://www.itsworldcongress.jp
