SUMMARY:European Launch of the GLEC Framework
DESCRIPTION:The Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) of industry initiatives\, associations and leading multinationals involved in freight movement led by Smart Freight Centre\, invites you to celebrate the launch of a universal and transparent way of calculating logistics emissions: the GLEC Framework. \nCompanies need to transport products to millions of customers around the globe. Leading companies want to be competitive and more environmentally sustainable by improving freight efficiency\, tracking greenhouse gas emissions and lowering costs. Including the carbon footprint of logistics activities in business decisions (alongside costs\, time and reliability) is only possible if emissions can be calculated consistently at a global level across road\, rail\, air\, sea\, inland waterways and transhipment centers. For the first time the GLEC Framework 1.0 provides this guidance\, allowing multinational shippers and carriers to compare and select more fuel efficient modes and carriers and identify ways to increase efficiency. \nThe launch of the GLEC Framework follows a year of consultation and validation with GLEC partners such as Hewlett-Packard\, Kuehne + Nagel\, DB Schenker and DHL\, as well as the issuance of the GHG Protocol Built on Mark. A next step is to mobilize companies to apply the GLEC Framework and integrate it into\, for example\, industry tools\, green freight programs\, and national standards and policies. \nThe agenda will be available soon\, meanwhile register here. \nDownload your copy of the GLEC Framework: a universal way to calculate logistics emissions is finally here!

SUMMARY:SocialCar Conference
DESCRIPTION:New consumer behaviour – new business opportunities. SocialCar in the sharing economy \nThe sharing economy has rapidly gained in importance over the last few years\, affecting traditional market sectors including mobility and logistics\, retail and consumer merchandise\, tourism and leisure. \nCollaborative consumption\, rethinking the value of ownership\, consumers becoming service providers are factors which herald in a paradigm shift in global consumer behaviour. \nRecent business pairings such as KLM and Airbnb\, Toyota and Uber\, Volswagen and Gett\, GM and Lyft reveal the readiness of big corporations to embrace the change. \nBut is the European small business ready yet? Europe is still missing an adequate regulatory framework\, and the small business sector keeps a safety distance. \nSocialCar\, a European research project funded by Horizon 2020\, pursues the mission to kick-start business models in the passengers’ mobility sector capitalising on the sharing economy. The project develops a user-oriented platform for planning\, booking and integrated payment combining carpooling and other on-demand services with regular collective transport\, in an effort to mainstream the concept of a public-private co-modal urban transport. Business analysts devise concepts for viable and bankable service models which can ripple out across Europe. \nCan this become a role model for other sectors as well? \nSocialCar is about sharing and collaborative development. Software engineers\, business analysts\, transport experts\, carpooling providers and public authorities from Italy\, Greece\, United Kingdom\, Luxembourg\, Poland\, Switzerland\, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia\, Croatia\, Slovenia\, the Netherlands\, Hungary\, Spain and Belgium are collaboratively inventing a unique solution made in Europe. \nThe SocialCar community is growing\, and now it’s time for you to have a say. We look forward to meeting you in Brussels! \nRegister here for the event! \nFurther information will follow soon. \n

SUMMARY:Intelligent Transport Systems: a Tool or a Toy?
DESCRIPTION:This conference is co-organised between the COST Association and the University of Žilina\, the latter as European Research Area (ERA) Chair (ERAdiate project) on International Transport Systems (ITS)\, and is held under the auspices of the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. \n            \nThe aim of this event is to bring special attention to the role of research organisations in providing evidence to the policy makers for shaping the right ecosystem in ITS\, and to the role of the industry\, and in particular small and medium enterprises (SMEs)\, in delivering innovative\, sustainable and interoperable solutions. Particular attention will be given to two important pillars of future mobility: Autonomous driving and Mobility as a Service (MaaS). \nThis two-day conference will take place in the context of a new legal framework (Directive 2010/40/EU) that was adopted by the European Union on 07 July 2010\, to accelerate the deployment of the ITS across Europe. \nAccording to the European Commission’s White Paper on Transport\, new forms of mobility have to be proposed for overcoming reliability\, environmental safety and affordability issues towards sustainable solutions for the transport of people and goods. Until now\, advancements in research and technology have significantly contributed to this recommendation by integrating multidisciplinary approaches\, and having addressed the fragmentation of knowledge in ITS. \nHowever\, the deployment of widely used interoperable and seamless ITS solutions is still lagging behind the expectations\, both in terms of their sustainability and competitiveness\, as well as integrating their socioeconomic impact at regional\, national and pan-European level. \nThe Programme and additional information will be published shortly. \nPlease note: Due to the limited seating \, Registrations are on a first-come-first-served basis . \nFree online Registration: http://forms.cost.eu/itstooltoy-registration \nOn 24 November\, from 10:00 to 13:30\, we will also host an Introduction to the COST Framework \nThis half-day event\, where national research communities are informed by representatives of the COST Association about the COST Framework’s policies\, activities and funding opportunities\, with an emphasis on the Open Call for new COST Actions proposals\, andCOST Action representatives from the specific countries showcase the outstanding results of their participation in COST Actions and share their experiences and best practices. \nYou are also invited to join this event should you be interested. Registration is included in the link above.
