SUMMARY:Compass4D webinar: ITS Living Labs in Europe: state of play & outlook to the future
DESCRIPTION:When: 16 December 2016 – 10:00 to 11:30 CEST \nRegistration: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/4070250587989612546 \nContact: Giacomo Somma (g.somma@mail.ertico.com)\nDetails: The Compass4D project is one of the most successful stories in terms of C-ITS deployment in Europe. Co-funded by the European commission under the CIP – Competitive and Innovation Programme\, the project ended in 2015 but the seven pilot cities have continued to operate their services outside the European funding together with about 50 public and private organisations. The partners involved in the continuation operations have extended the coverage areas in the 7 cities as well as in other cities\, added new C-ITS services\, and increased the penetration rate of equipped commercial and public transport vehicles.\nNow\, one year later\, we look at the state of play and future perspectives in the deployment of innovative solutions for connected and automated driving\, with a special focus on ITS Living Labs in Europe. \nFive presentations will outline the progresses made and future plans in the Compass4D cities of Bordeaux and Helmond\, as well as in Austria\, Finland and Spain. \nThe webinar is free of charge\, but registration is required.  \nClick here to register!

SUMMARY:Politico: Decarbonising Europe's transport sector
DESCRIPTION:The EU took a strong position in the global fight against climate change at the 2015 COP21 summit in Paris by setting an ambitious target of reducing emissions by 40 percent by 2030. Now it must turn this commitment into action. Ensuring transport contributes its fair share to these emissions cuts appears to be a near-insurmountable challenge. \nIn Europe\, transport’s oil dependency makes cars\, trucks\, airplanes and ships the single biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions. Road transport is a particular problem and responsible for 73% of total transport emissions\, because Europe’s 290 million road vehicles are over 90% reliant on oil. \nThere is a wide range of low-emission transport alternatives that can alleviate oil dependence and slash emissions in road transport: everything from batteries and ethanol to more efficient engines and smarter transport systems. But how soon can these solutions be scaled up to achieve significant emissions reductions? \nThe transition to low-emission transport can only be achieved through cooperation among carmakers\, consumers\, energy companies and technology providers\, as well as national and EU regulators. Binding targets to reduce the carbon intensity of road transport fuels and promote the use of renewable energy by 2030 have been set. However\, the recent European Commission’s “Clean Energy Package for All” proposes a phase out of conventional biofuels — the biggest source of renewable energy currently in transport. Is the 2030 objective now unrealistic? What solutions will national governments devise to meet emission cuts? \nThis event will gather high-level EU and national policymakers\, industry representatives\, energy experts and environment groups for a frank conversation on how to rev up transport emissions reductions efforts\, without wrecking European mobility and competitiveness. \nQuestions to be addressed at the event include: \n\nWhat transport technologies will help Europe speed up emissions reductions?\nWhat are the benefits and drawbacks of these technologies?\nShould national governments or the private sector take the lead in the transition to low emission transport solutions?\nCan policy makers assure the contributions of low emission transport energy such as electricity and ethanol are maximised?\n\nFor the full agenda\, please click here. \nTo register\, please click here. \n  \nSource: Politico Europe \n

SUMMARY:C-ITS Deployment is underway! Part III Third public workshop of the Amsterdam Group and CODECS
DESCRIPTION:C-ITS deployment is underway and initially progressed in corridor projects and pilots all over Europe. The Amsterdam Group and the CODECS partners aim on harmonising the ongoing activities in these various deployment hot spots. They have jointly set up a series of public workshops to discuss their work with other stakeholders and interested organisations. After the „C-ITS Deployment is underway!“ workshops in September 2015 in Roskilde in Denmark and in April 2016 in Amsterdam\, this third edition features the C-ITS Strategy of the European Commission and reports about the state of play in the C-ITS Platform. It also focuses on the newly established CEF supported projects C-Roads and Intercor and provides ongoing corridor initiatives and pilots with a platform to report their progress in making cooperative road traffic a reality. They will give a status update with regard to lessons-learned\, identified deployment challenges as wel

SUMMARY:Jubilee 10th Polish ITS Congress
DESCRIPTION:For 10 years\, the ITS POLSKA Association\, along with the dynamically developing industry\, have been forming the ITS market in Poland\, i.e. almost from its very beginning. The year 2017 will find a special place in the industry’s calendar because of two jubilees: the tenth anniversary of ITS POLSKA and the tenth edition of the POLISH ITS CONGRESS for Intelligent Transport Systems\, which will take place on 16-17 May 2017 at Sofitel Victoria in Warsaw. \nThis double jubilee takes place during a particularly significant moment of ITS’ development in Poland. First\, we are entering a new era of EU programming in Horizon 2020\, which will fund both new projects\, as well as expansions of existing systems. Second\, we are entering the period of better understanding of the necessity to build internal\, domestic technology and competence solutions for intelligent transport. The EU 2020 perspective gives us\, therefore\, a great opportunity to increase Poland’s economic potential\, in particular – for ITS to become our national specialty. \nProgramme proposal of the jubilee POLISH ITS CONGRESS covers a wide variety of ITS applications. Topics will include both popular issues concerning investment projects in Poland\, such as traffic management systems and toll systems for domestic roads\, as well as still interesting issues\, such as technologies used in public transport. We will continue discussions on railways\, as well as new ITS market issues\, such as managing transport demand in cities. \nSpeeches will concern the following topics: Road traffic management systems (implementation assessment\, traffic detection\, information on traffic conditions\, priorities for public transport\, guidance to free\, publicly available parking spaces\, including pavement spaces)\, integration of municipal and domestic systems\, balancing mobility\, public transport (dispatch management of public transport\, information systems for passengers\, sharing systems [car sharing\, ridesharing]\, ITS and competitiveness of public transport)\, collecting fees for using public roads and transport (collecting fees for using motorways\, Polish expressways\, bridges and tunnels\, collecting fees for entering city centres\, joint railway & municipal public transport ticket\, smart ticketing – modern ticket systems\, Mobility as a Service [MaaS])\, autonomous vehicles and V2X systems\, railway telematics\, law and finances (public procurement law in ITS\, new sources of funding the implementation of innovative ITS solutions\, Public-Private Partnership\, ITS standards). \nOver 300 people participated in the last\, 9th edition of the POLISH ITS CONGRESS: representatives of companies related to Intelligent Transport Systems\, government and self-government authorities\, universities of technology\, and industry press from Poland. Self-government representatives constituted over 40% of congress participants. \nPOLISH ITS CONGRESS is a permanent event in the transport industry calendar in Poland and in Europe. Each year\, many domestic and international speakers and experts participate in this event. We believe that the coming jubilee edition will pique the interest and gather an even larger number of business\, science and self-government representatives\, which will enhance the entire transport industry in Poland. \nAdditional information is available at www.pkits.pl

SUMMARY:BigDataEurope and the Societal Challenge on Transport
DESCRIPTION:BigDataEurope is a project within the EU’s Horizon 2020 framework programme aiming to build a knowledge- and innovation-based society and to strengthen the competitiveness of Europe’s economy. The project started in 2015 and will culminate at the end of 2017. \nBigDataEurope has developed and provides an integrated stack of tools to manipulate\, publish and use large-scale data resources. These tools are freely accessible to all\, including those with minimal knowledge of the technologies involved\, and have already been installed in customised data processing chains. The Big Data Integrator Platform is a key outcome of the Big Data Europe project. It is an ecosystem of specifications and reference implementations that are attractive to both current players and newcomers from all parts of the data value chain. \nAt the core of the BigDataEurope project are seven societal challenges or focus areas – health\, food\, energy\, transport\, climate\, social sciences\, and security. Transport is societal challenge 4 (SC4) and contributes to smarter\, safer\, and cleaner transport\, using beyond-state-of-the-art data solutions and giving rise to a European leadership for new mobility services. \nThe workshop will demonstrate the value of the recently launched Platform by showcasing the pilot\, and aim to collect feedback from stakeholders requiring transport solutions on how the platform can be extended to increase its value and facilitate further applications. The workshop will also feature a panel debate discussing the transformation that big data is bringing to the transport industry and presenting some of the current EU funded projects working with transport and big data. \n  \nThe Draft Agenda is available on the website. \nRegistration is on Eventbrite here.

SUMMARY:Conference: High Quality Positioning: A Key to Success for Autonomous Driving
DESCRIPTION:Date: 4th of October 2017\nLocation: BluePoint Brussels\, 80 Bd. A. Reyers https://goo.gl/maps/dX7RERxy6TC2\nJoint organisation with ERTICO\nOrganisers: F. Peyret\, P.-Y. Gilliéron: chair of SaPPART; F. Fischer: ERTICO\n\nConference abstract\nThe deployment of autonomous vehicles is becoming a reality on the European road network and will significantly affect the future liability of different actors in the road and transport sectors. Liability is strongly linked with the trust that you can have in a system\, like a vehicle with advanced driver assistance or automatic driving capabilities. In these applications vehicle positioning is one of the most critical components because most of the decisions are based on the location of the vehicle itself and of other vehicles and objects in its vicinity. \nThis conference is the final event of the EU COST Action” Satellite Positioning Performance Assessment for Road Transport” (SaPPART). At this conference\, the main outcomes of the Action will be presented within the context of very demanding applications such as autonomous driving. \nwww.sappart.net \nIf you have any questions then please contact Francois Fischer f.fischer@mail.ertico.com

SUMMARY:Workshop Smart & Green Mobility Solutions @BrabantStad – Now and in the future
DESCRIPTION:  \nA European Week of Regions and Cities side event: 11.10.2017 in Brussels \nOn Wednesday October 11th 2017 from 11.00h -14.00h BrabantStad organises\, with POLIS support\, an energetic workshop which focuses on Smart & Green Mobility Solutions. Brabant wants cleaner\, economical and better possibilities of transport\, both in the field of passenger and freight transport. Innovative\, smart mobility solutions are therefore very crucial. Due to developments in the field of ICT\, social innovation with its multi helix collaboration\, Brabant has become a leader in smart mobility concepts. \n  \nWith a 90-minute dynamic and interactive program\, we intend to outline a number of moonshots in the field of automated & connected driving\, cycle innovations\, smart logistics\, zero emission buses and ‘Mobility as a Service’. Where do we stand in Brabant in these areas in about 10 years? Are we driving by a self-driving car across the A58 from Breda to Helmond? How many zero emission vehicles are driving on the Brabant motorways? Does your bike decide which route is the most convenient? Has Brabant introduced a ‘killer-app’ for Mobility as a Service (MaaS)? How many new smart mobility companies are booming? Will empty trucks be still on the road? Is Brabant known in Europe as ‘Region of Smart Mobility’? How do we realise these moonshots? Why do other European regions want to collaborate with Brabant in projects\, business development and partnerships?
