SUMMARY:EU Connected Automated Driving conference
DESCRIPTION:The deployment of Connected and Automated Driving (CAD) can contribute significantly to our policy goals of bringing down the number of road fatalities\, reducing harmful emissions from transport and reducing congestion. At the same time\, automated mobility has the potential to strengthen the competitiveness of European industry\, create new jobs and boost economic growth. \nIt is the ambition of the European Commission to make Europe a world leader in the deployment of connected and automated mobility. Technological progress is very fast and the market for connected and automated vehicles is expected to grow exponentially. \nWith the EUCAD 2019 conference\, which comes almost one year after the publication of the Communication on automated mobility and two years after EUCAD 2017\, the European Commission intends to take stock of the implementation of the different actions of the European agenda. \nEUCAD 2019 is the only conference in Europe that brings together political leaders from the European Commission and Member States with high-level representatives of industry and road authorities to discuss all the major challenges related to automated mobility. \nTaking place just one month before European elections\, EUCAD 2019 will also convey a strong message to citizens: their acceptance is key to the success of CAD. Engaging different segments of society in the discussion helps to establish a sense of inclusiveness and shared ownership and will encourage this acceptance. \nClick here for more details.

SUMMARY:Collaborative Innovation Days – logistics information spaces: from data to value
DESCRIPTION:Enterprises and authorities are operating within global and complex supply and logistics networks that increasingly rely on data exchange to optimize and synchronize their processes. Freight Transport and Logistics is a fragmented industry with great involvement of SMEs that require simple\, ready-to-use solutions since they lack enough knowledge and investment capital. Managing data has been a key research topic for more than a decade and it is indeed nowadays a significant success factor for logistics companies. Data markets and platforms are important enablers to achieve seamless information sharing to build efficient end to end logistics operations. By means of data analysis\, companies can optimise both their own and their customers‘ supply chain. \nThe Digital Transport and Logistics Forum\, DTLF aims to build a common vision and road map towards a federative platform in Europe\, where existing data markets and platforms are interoperable and operate as one towards enterprises and authorities. \nIn this Collaborative Innovation Day\, we will share experiences and knowledge on industry & public initiatives\, research and innovation projects in the field. We will revisit priorities included in ALICE roadmap on Information Systems for Interconnected Logistics and the conclusions of the Digitalization Collaborative Innovation Day in 2017. \nQuestions addressed: \n\nWhat are the barriers to data sharing? are they technical (i.e. systems integration and communication)\, organizational\, economical (value for logistics & supply chain underestimated) or cultural?\nWould the initiative of the DTLF to create a federative platform help business and authorities to improve data sharing? Who should drive the development of this collaboration amongst data markets and platforms\, what would be the role of EC\, Member States authorities\, supply and logistics enterprises and data market/-platform/technology providers?\n\n\nWhich are the main strategies to ensure data sovereignty?\n\n\nWhich is the actual implementation and use of data sharing platforms & ecosystems? Which are the most successful cases? How has trust been built?\nHow are logistics data spaces created? Which are the different governance models? How to easily pool platforms\, applications and services?\nHow are logistics data markets emerging? Which are the expected developments in the field?\n\nClick here for the draft agenda. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:The Role of Cities in the Smart Mobility Economy
DESCRIPTION:ERTICO is a proud supporter of the global debate on “The Role of Cities in the Smart Mobility Economy”\, organised by Durham University and taking place on Friday 14 June in Paris.\n\nBy 2030\, 60 percent of the world’s population will live in cities\, up from about 50 percent today. Over the same period\, more than two billion people are likely to enter the middle class\, with the majority of them living in cities in emerging markets. The number of megacities with more than ten million people will continue to grow. Many people entering the global middle class will want to buy cars: automobile sales are expected to increase from about 70 million a year in 2010 to 125 million by 2025\, with more than half forecasted to be bought in cities. Some automotive analysts have gone as far as predicting that on the existing trajectory\, today’s 1.2 billion strong global car fleet could double by 2030.\n\nThe existing urban infrastructure cannot support such an increase in vehicles on the road. Congestion is already close to unbearable in many cities and can cost as much as 2 to 4 percent of national GDP\, by measures such as lost time\, wasted fuel\, and increased cost of doing business. Between 2013 and 2030\, it is estimated that traffic congestion may cost the British economy as much as £307 billion. Transport creates emissions of greenhouse gases; smog presents serious public-health concerns. The World Health Organization estimated in 2014 that seven million premature deaths are attributable to air pollution\, and a significant share is the result of urban transit.\n\nSolving the mobility challenge will require bold\, coordinated actions from the private and public sectors for gaining public acceptance of emerging technological solutions and creating new regulatory frameworks across Europe and beyond. Technological advances and commercialization\, crowd-funding\, intelligent policies\, and business-model innovation will be needed to realize productivity improvements while creating more sustainable innovative environments in our cities and metropolitan areas.\n\nRegistrations are open! Click here to register.\n\nMore information is available here.

SUMMARY:The future of road transport
DESCRIPTION:Launch event of JRC report “The future of road transport – Implications of automated\, connected\, low-carbon and shared mobility” A perfect storm of new technologies and new business models is transforming not only our vehicles\, but everything about how we get around\, and how we live our lives. The JRC report “The future of road transport – Implications of automated\, connected\, lowcarbon and shared mobility” looks at some main enablers of the transformation of road transport\, such as data governance\, infrastructures\, communication technologies and cybersecurity\, and legislation. It discusses the potential impacts on the economy\, employment and skills\, energy use and emissions\, the sustainability of raw materials\, democracy\, privacy and social fairness\, as well as on the urban context. It shows how the massive changes on the horizon represent an opportunity to move towards a transport system that is more efficient\, safer\, less polluting and more accessible to larger parts of society than the current one centred on car ownership. However\, new transport technologies\, on their own\, won’t spontaneously make our lives better without upgrading our transport systems and policies to the 21st century. The improvement of governance and the development of innovative mobility solutions will be crucial to ensure that the future of transport is cleaner and more equitable than its car-centred present. \nFor more information and to view the agenda\, click here.

SUMMARY:optiTruck conference
DESCRIPTION:As the optiTruck project approaches its conclusion in August of this year\, this conference will present preliminary results of three years of work by the consortium partners through technical presentations and interactive sessions. Register now and join us in Brussels on 2nd July to learn and discuss fuel efficiency for road haulage. \nThe automotive industry has made a substantial effort in recent years to develop powertrain technologies to improve the fuel efficiency of Heavy-Duty Vehicles. However\, due to increasing road freight traffic\, projections indicate that the energy use and CO2 emissions of these vehicles are expected to remain stable at the current level over the long term unless policy action is taken. This outcome is clearly incompatible with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transport by around 60% below 1990 levels by 2050. \nTo tackle this issue\, the optiTruck project – optimal fuel consumption with Predictive PowerTrain control and calibration for Intelligent Truck – brings together the most advanced technologies from predictive powertrain control and intelligent transport systems in order to achieve a global optimum for consumption of fuel and of other energy sources and consumables\, while achieving Euro VI emission standards for heavy duty trucks (40t category).  optiTruck brings together 11 partners from 7 European countries who focused on the creation of the global optimiser consisting of a set of dynamic\, intelligent control and predictive components designed for effective powertrain management\, utilising the environment data related to the transport mission\, road topography\, weather and road conditions and surrounding vehicles. \nParticipation to the event is free\, but registration is mandatory. Click here to register \nMore info: optitruck.eu

SUMMARY:Smart Mobility: an opportunity for growth" conference
DESCRIPTION:Enter a massive dose of technology into the passenger and freight mobility system in Italy to achieve those goals already reached in other countries with smart mobility\, such as a 20% reduction in travel time and a 10% increase in infrastructure capacity . This is the objective of the proposals that TTS Italia will present in Rome on July 11th at the “Smart Mobility: an opportunity for growth” conference\, addressing the Government and institutions\, also in view of the next budget law\, and the local administrations committed to drawing up the SUMPs. \nTTS Italia will present two documents to guide the choices of institutions and local authorities and direct their priorities. \nItaly is a country that moves by road. 91.19% of total movements (goods and people) take place on the road with obvious negative externalities in terms of congestion\, environmental pollution and safety. To this it should be added that the demand for road transport presents significant territorial imbalances\, as traffic flows are essentially concentrated on some critical lines and nodes around the main metropolitan and industrial areas of the country. On the security front\, the absolute values of road accidents\, even if lower in comparison with previous years (with the exception of the number of deaths that have returned to growth compared to the previous year)\, remain very high\, especially in urban areas where there is about 75% of accidents\, with extremely worrying social and economic impacts. \nSmart management of mobility means significantly affecting critical issues. Experiences started in other European countries and in the United States have shown that the application of ITS leads to a reduction in travel time of 20%\, to an increase in network capacity of 5-10%\, to a decrease accidents of 10-15%\, congestion of 15%\, polluting emissions of 10% and energy consumption of 12%. These are benefits that can be obtained with relatively modest investments and\, in any case\, much lower percentages than those necessary for the construction of new infrastructures. In particular\, according to European Commission data\, every 1 euro invested in ITS cooperative services (C-ITS) yields 3 euros in terms of return in the period 2018-2030. \nThis is why TTS Italia is convinced that investing in smart mobility is a growth opportunity for Italy: a country that moves in a more intelligent and sustainable way produces development and progress.\nThe document “TTS Italia proposals for Smart Mobility” which will be presented and discussed in the first part of the morning of 11 July therefore indicates the priorities on which to intervene to restore momentum to the mobility system of people and goods\, with the goal of introducing and expanding the use of intelligent transport technologies and systems. \nClick here for more information.
