SUMMARY:COMPASS (Optimesed CO-Modal PASSenger Transport for reducing carbon emissions) FINAL EVENT
DESCRIPTION:COMPASS (Optimesed CO-Modal PASSenger Transport for reducing carbon emissions) will hold its final conference in Rome on 13  November 2013. At the conference\, the project will present its results and focus on ICT solutions for co-modality. \nCOMPASS started in November 2011\, and looked at the existing information available on passenger journeys in Europe\, drawing extensively on work that has been undertaken in previous European-funded projects. Existing sources of information and data have been used to identify and describe the key trends in mobility patterns in the 21st century\, based on current and future passenger needs. Existing sources of travel survey data have been exhaustively researched\, with a particular focus on the role of ICT in data collection and management\, and recommendations will be made on improving data collection in passenger transport to meet future needs. \nCOMPASS is in the process of identifying ICT-based solutions that have the potential to improve co-modality in passenger transport and these potential solutions will be assessed through a number of case studies. \nThe assessment of ICT solutions for improved co-modality is being based on a framework that emphasises the contribution of each solution to reduced carbon emissions. There will also be an investigation into how best to present solutions for improved co-modality to those stakeholders in transport operations and planning who will be responsible for their implementation\, to ensure the best possible take-up of recommended solutions. Finally COMPASS will derive conclusions and recommendations for national and EU transport policy and actions. \nThe final conference in Rome will present some of the project’s key findings as well as present some of the most interesting solutions found\, and will seek feed-back from the representatives of policy makers and other stakeholders as well as researchers and the transport industry. \nFor any further information on COMPASS\, please visit: \n http://www.fp7-compass.eu/about-compass

SUMMARY:3rd International Conference on Urban Transportation Systems (ICUTS)
DESCRIPTION:Paris\, November 2013 \nThis Conference will offer a forum for civil engineers seeking to address civil engineering applications associated with all modes of public transportation\, including bus and rail. The civil engineering profession\, through its many sub-disciplines\, provides a vast array of specialized knowledge toward the science of safe and efficient movement of people and goods. Civil engineers throughout the world take on many important roles in support of the public transportation industry. \nThe conference will have four parallel tracks covering the following topics: \nPlanning\, environment\, and finance: planning tools\, environmental and sustainability issues\, and innovative financing mechanisms for planning\, operations\, and constructionOperations & maintenance of systems infrastructure: security\, safety\, and efficiencyDesign and construction of infrastructure: bus (bus rapid transit\, exclusive bus lanes\, etc.) and rail systems (underground\, elevated\, and surface alignments)\, stations\, etc.Innovative systems and practices: leading edge vehicle\, infrastructure\, and propulsion systems \nIn addition to the plenary and technical breakout sessions there will be technical tours of significant transit projects in Paris such as the automation of Line 1 of the Paris Metro. This conference responds to the rapidly growing interest and activity in transit as sustainable transportation by sharing information on leading-edge principles and practices.

SUMMARY:eCall Testing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is organised by the ERTICO Partnership to present recommendations concerning the implementation of eCall according to the forthcoming regulation. In particular\, it will focus on how to achieve cost efficient testing of eCall components. \nThe workshop is organised for all ERTICO Partners. \nTesting of eCall devices and PSAP equipment\, as well as underlying modules is considered important for the successful introduction of eCall in Europe. In 2012\, the first interoperability test event\, organized at MIRA in UK\, showed the need to ensure the compliance of eCall devices to the relevant standards. \nThe HeERO EC co-funded project is preparing a deliverable providing a complete compliance assessment process for IVS and PSAP. In September 2013\, the ERTICO Partnership organized a successful TestFest event on end-to-end eCall compliancy testing. More than 30 companies participated in this event\, showing a growing interest for the interoperability of eCall devides. As the event concluced\, 4000 tests were executed; hence the ERTICO Partnership would like to explore this compliancy testing even further. It is important to finalize the test procedures and provide proper framework for vendors to apply for the eCall compliancy assessment. \nThe purpose of this workshop is to present the current test procedures and discuss how these can be expanded and improved regarding the overall eCall compliance assessment. \nOnly ERTICO Partners can register for this workshop. 150 seats are available. Please register by at http://www.eventbrite.com/myevent?eid=8649467791 \n  \n

SUMMARY:FOT-Net 10th Stakeholders workshop on “Naturalistic driving”
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is organised in collaboration with the UDRIVE project. \nIn this stakeholders workshop we will focus on Naturalistic Driving Studies (NDS). NDS can be defined as “A study undertaken to provide insight into driver behaviour during every day trips by recording details of the driver\, the vehicle and the surroundings through unobtrusive data gathering equipment and without experimental control”. \nThe following questions will be addressed: \n• What is the current status of the Naturalistic Driving Studies?• What role can Naturalistic Driving play within Field Operational Tests\, and what is the synergy between these two types of studies?• What are the interests and needs of stakeholders?• How can the results from NDS be deployed?• What can be done with the large amount of data that are gathered in NDS? \nIn this stakeholder workshop attention will be paid to different types of NDS (both from Europe and the US) and with different types of vehicles (cars\, trucks\, powered two-wheelers and bicycles). \nResults from the different working groups in FOT-Net will be presented in relation to NDS. Also the latest revision of the FESTA handbook will be presented. \nThe preliminary agenda can be found here. \nFor registration\, please click here

SUMMARY:3rd International Conference on Models and Technologies for Intelligent Transport Systems
DESCRIPTION:  \nAfter the successful meetings in Rome in 2009 and 2011 in Leuven the 3rd International Conference on Models and Technologies for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) will be held in Dresden in December 2013. The main topic of this meeting will be the intermodal use of ITS in urban traffic. \nIn public transport vehicle related devices act as sensors for the acquisition and transfer of traffic data\, e. g. the positions of busses and trams which are sent to intermodal transport control systems (ITCS) or the communication between vehicles and traffic lights. In private traffic several systems based on vehicle’s on-board units or mobile devices have been tested and in part been put in operation within the last years. \nBased on vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication (V2I)\, an increasing market penetration of cooperative systems will affect traffic management in urban areas and might improve its possibilities. One of the prospective challenges is to combine data and information gathered by infrastructure related systems with the one of cooperative systems. Science has to deal with both\, possibilities and challenges\, to achieve additional benefit for the future intermodal mobility management. \nBeside this main topic\, the third edition of MT-ITS calls for papers on models and technologies of ITS for air\, rail and long-distance road transport. \nThe conference language is English. \n http://openaccess.tu-dresden.de/ocs/index.php/mtits/mt-its-2013 \n
