SUMMARY:CIVITAS Forum Conference 2019
DESCRIPTION:The CIVITAS Forum Conference 2019 will be held in Graz\, Austria\, from 2-4 October 2019. The 17th  Europe’s top sustainable mobility event will once again bring together the CIVITAS community from across Europe and beyond. \nThe choice of Graz as the location for 2019 marks something of a homecoming – the very first Forum took place there in 2003.   \nA little bit about Graz \nGraz is Austria’s second largest city and the capital of the Styria region. It has a long distinguished track record both as a member of CIVITAS and for embedding sustainable ideas into its urban development and transport systems. \nAlongside having one of Europe’s largest pedestrian zones\, the city has rolled out its own intermodal hub system and was an early implementer of cycling lanes and a parking management system. \nAn urban mobility lab launched in 2017 fosters systemic mobility solutions in combination with e-mobility and other sustainable mobility solutions in the Functional Urban Area of Graz. \nIn recent years\, Graz has participated in the CIVITAS projects SMARTSET (2013-2016) and NOVELOG (2015-2018). \nClick here for more information.

SUMMARY:Emission-free mobility: how will Europe reach its targets?
DESCRIPTION:ERTICO Partner BMW will be supporting and hosting the event “Emission-free mobility: how will Europe reach its targets?”\, together with EURACTIV. \nThe Forum aims at understanding what action is required to achieve a carbon-neutral mobility sector and to reach the EU’s 2030 and 2050 targets. Is there a single solution or do we need to look at a mix of solutions such as: deployment of low-emission alternative energy for transport; electrification of transport; hybrid vehicles; battery technology; new lightweight materials; digital and connected vehicles technologies; interoperable infrastructure; data analysis? \nDecarbonising transport is a core theme of the EU 2020 strategy. The long-term objective of the European Union on CO2 emissions is an overall reduction of 80-95% by 2050. \nThe leading position of the EU transport sector in the world is not cast in stone. A long-term strategy is needed to fully meet the energy demand of the transport sector from alternative and sustainable sources by 2050. This is the objective of the EU’s Clean Transport Systems (CTS) initiative. \nMobility systems in general and transportation in particular are undergoing profound transformations. They are expected to evolve more in the next 10 years than they have in the past 50. The EU faces a combination of challenges. Transport will fuel the modernisation of the economy and is a key source of European employment\, but it also tops the ranking of polluters. The EU can show that modernising the economy and addressing climate change go hand in hand. \nSome stakeholders argue it should start with incentivising the low-emission transition in the transport sector. A successful sustainable mobility strategy requires a systemic approach which acts at the intersection between technology\, infrastructure financing\, multi-modal mobility\, and public-private partnerships. This implies coherence between mutually reinforcing policies such as climate\, energy\, transport\, circular economy\, industrial competitiveness\, and research and innovation. \nSpeakers include: \nGwenole Cozigou\, Director\, Industrial Transformation and Advanced Value Chains\, DG GROW \nAlexandre Paquot\, Head of Unit Road Transport\, DG CLIMA \nJens Gieseke MEP\, TRAN Member\, European People’s Party \nAndreas Klugescheid\, Head of Steering Government and External Affairs\, BMW Group \nCarlos Calvo Ambel\, Director\, Trends and Analysis\, Transport&Environment \nMaxime Flament\, Chief Technology Officer\, 5G Automotive Association \nClick here for more information.

SUMMARY:ERTS Congress "Artificial intelligence technologies will be paramount"
DESCRIPTION:The ERTS Congress will celebrate in January 2020 its 10th Edition: what does this scientific conference represent compared to other events in the same domain? \nThis event builds on the know-how and history of the Occitanie Region in engineering and embedded systems. It deals with avionics\, space and automotive domains that are at the core of this activity. But it goes far beyond\, since today ERTS is tackling ever wider areas of application like railways\, health and agriculture. This congress relies on the actors of our industrial fabric which has been growing locally for a long time. It results from strong collaborations – often built-up thanks to joint laboratories – between the researchers of CNRS & University of Toulouse and companies like Airbus\, Continental\, Thales. The IRT Saint Exupéry is also an important enabler of this collaboration. ERTS 2020 is therefore a unique international event at the crossroads between academic and corporate research. \nThis year\, among the 105 submissions\, the ERTS Program Committee\, which I chair\, has selected 56 contributions that will be presented as regular paper and talk and 11 as short paper and talk (with a poster). \nClick here for more information.
