SUMMARY:The European MaaS model: Achieving sustainable mobility
DESCRIPTION:According to the European Commission\, the European transport sector has to deliver a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 whilst providing affordable\, accessible\, safe and clean transport solutions. Mobility as a Service – MaaS – as acknowledged by the EU Green Deal and recently published Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy\, can be an answer with its significant emission reduction potential and provide Europeans with all-encompassing services to meet their mobility needs. \nThe COVID-19 pandemic has been a turning point\, brought many undesired effects but has also opened up opportunities for improving our urban mobility systems and accelerating the sustainable transformations. For a better future\, we will need comfortable\, smart and sustainable mobility solutions\, like Mobility as a Service. The progress that we have made with MaaS in Europe over the past years is very much linked to the hard work of the European legislators in removing barriers from the development of integrated multimodal services and supporting the interoperability of these solutions. \nTo continue this fruitful collaboration and to kick-off this eventful year\, the MaaS Alliance will organise an online event with European Parliament and European Commission representatives as well as with key stakeholders from the mobility sector to discuss priorities and future steps to implement MaaS across the whole European Union. The event will be co-hosted by MEP Henna Virkkunen (EPP). \nOn 4 February 2021 10-11:30 when we will look at the past\, present and future of MaaS and discuss the topical legislative dossiers and strategies from the MaaS point of view. Speakers include Ms Henna Virkkunen (MEP/EPP)\, Mr Richard Szostak (Principal Adviser for Digitalisation\, DG MOVE) and Mr Jacob Bangsgaard (MaaS Alliance President / CEO of ERTICO – ITS Europe) and leading public and private organisations of the new mobility sector. \nIf you would like to participate\, please send an email to the MaaS Alliance.

SUMMARY:Digitalisation of road transport in Europe
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the course of its own studies\, the European ITS Platform (Evaluation Group)\, in conjunction with ITS Corridors and experts in the field\, have developed a suite of tools and guidance designed to nurture a harmonised approach to the Evaluation of ITS. The ITS Corridors have in-turn adopted this approach\, which has helped to make the benefits of ITS investments across Europe more consistent\, more comparable and more visible. \nInitial Corridor results based on this commonly adopted approach are now presented in a single source – the Digitalisation of Road Transport in Europe book – which contains an overview of the overall impacts and benefits of co-funded ITS investment.  ITS systems and services increase the performance of hard infrastructures\, such as roads. They can do so for all policy goals: safety\, mobility\, the environment and climate change. At the same time they provide the data and services for the digitalization of the Core Network Corridors\, the comprehensive TEN-T and other networks including urban\, building the Single European Transport Area and integrating with the society-wide digitalization. \nThe evaluation of the ITS Corridor projects of the CEF programme\, already covering almost all of the CNCs\, shows that the specific systems implemented are effective and have a good ROI. Being just a limited subset of what is\, or has been implemented nationally\, the absolute figures presented in the book therefore may be significantly higher for all of Europe. In future programmes\, with higher levels of harmonisation and integration and an ever-increasing level of digitalisation the contribution to European and national policy goals will be substantial. \nDr Johanna Tzanidaki\, Director of Innovation & Deployment at ERTICO – ITS Europe will talk about future priorities for traffic management and safety in Europe. \nRegister for this webinar here.

SUMMARY:TN-ITS Specifications for Road Data Exchange in Europe
DESCRIPTION:The TN-ITS platform\, coordinated by ERTICO\, was inaugurated in 2013 and brings together a number of road authorities and leading map & service providers to further develop the harmonised and automated exchange of (changes) of road data on European roads. The focus is clearly on ‘static’ road attributes\, which are vital elements of a reference geospatial base layer\, enabling reliable services as route planning\, navigation\, ADAS\, vehicle automation\, etc. This refers to changes of Speed Restrictions\, Traffic Signs\, Parking Information\, EV Charging Points\, etc. \nThe platform acts as the keeper of the TN-ITS Technical Specifications\, which were released by CEN in 2018 (CEN TS 17268) and describe the exchange data model\, the format and the interface. A dedicated working group on Specifications interacts with the TN-ITS service deployment projects (TN-ITS GO)\, other relevant standardisation platforms in Europe\, and the major stakeholders – including the European Commission. It is also responsible for maturing/extending the Technical Specifications and ensuring these specs are aligned with those in ‘related’ domains as traffic\, public transport\, EVs\, etc. \nThis webinar will provide a general introduction to the Technical Specifications. \nFirst\, the President of the TN-ITS\, Christian Kleine\, from HERE will give a concise overview of the platform. He will be followed by Stephen T’Siobbel\, the specifications working group leader representing ERTICO\, who will discuss the high level aspects of the TN-ITS specifications. \nA deeper dive will be provided by Knut Jetlund from the Norwegian Public Road Authorities\, a former member of the CEN project team that shaped the TS from earlier research results\, and a spatial data / standardisation expert. \nNext we have invited a (Linked) Open Data expert to elaborate upon the (technical) connection between TN-ITS and the Open Data world. We conclude with proposing a number of relevant upcoming actions and initiatives by our project manager Frank Daems from ERTICO. \nAdditional information about the webinar and regular updates can be found on LinkedIn on the TN-ITS page. \nREGISTER HERE \n
