SUMMARY:TRANSFORuM stakeholder meeting
DESCRIPTION:1ST JOINT FORUM MEETING\, JUNE 24TH AND 25TH 2013\nAt the end of June 2013 TRANSFORuM will hold the first “Joint Forum Meeting”. Around 50 stakeholders covering the whole spectrum of actors related to our four White Paper goals (ca. 12 per goal / selected thematic area) will convene in Gdansk for a structured discussion about “Policies\, funds\, actors and trends” (day 1) and “Challenges and barriers” (day 2). The topics on the first day will correspond with the focus of TRANSFORuM’s work package 3 (led by ATE)\, while those on the second day will correspond with work package 4 (led by VTI). \nTRANSFORuM will prepare a comprehensive briefing document with a summary of our initial background research about existing initiatives\, studies\, roadmaps and consultations in order to ensure that the debate in Gdansk can start from and build on top of the existing discourse. This preparatory “screening activity” will allow us to identify gaps in the discussion and add extra value to the existing landscape of consultations. We will identify the key points for each thematic group and discuss them in four parallel theme-specific workshops during the event. \nGuiding questions for work package 3 (day 1) across all four Thematic Groups include: \n\n\nWhich are the main policies at various levels relevant for White Paper implementation?\nWhich relevant funding opportunities/ mechanisms exist? Which are missing?\nWhich ones are important incumbent players and which ones are emerging but important\, potentially even game-changing?\nWhat are the trends which will influence future developments taking a 2030/ 2050 perspective?\n\n\nA robust\, holistic and “stakeholder-refined and -verified” view on these issues is crucial as a stepping stone towards the development of roadmaps and recommendations to be found in later work packages. \nOn the second day\, the leader of work package 4 (VTI) will present the preliminary findings of their background research on challenges and barriers; again\, a comprehensive but easy-to-read briefing document will make these results available to all invited stakeholders before the event. In a second step\, the four thematic group leaders (DTU\, KTH\, CNRS and ATE) will moderate four separate but parallel theme specific discussions among stakeholders ‘at eye-level’ and assist VTI in summarising the forum results in a written way. The ultimate aim of this second day will be to formulate a tentative action plan for overcoming and managing the challenges and barriers in question. \nFinally\, the results will be presented to all attendees and the event will closes with a keynote speech from a prominent figure in the field (t.b.a.). \nFor any question related to the logistical aspects of this event please contact the TRANSFORuM helpdesk at helpdesk@transforum-project.eu or on +46 13 204318. You will reach our friendly Ulla Kaisa Knutsson from our Swedish project partner VTI.

SUMMARY:ECTA Conference: Single Market for Telecoms
DESCRIPTION:The creation of a pan-European market for telecom services appears to be at the forefront of the European Commission’s vision for the sector. But what does a single market mean? What would it look like? Would it create a truly borderless market? Would it lead to sector consolidation and if so would it be national or cross-border consolidation? Would it lead to greater efficiencies and would it require a pan-European regulator to make sure it was operated consistently? What is in it for businesses and consumers? \nAll these questions and more will be addressed at ECTA’s one day conference ‘Single Market for Telecoms‘. \nKeynote Address by Vice President Neelie Kroes\, European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda \nClick here for the full conference programme

SUMMARY:C3 – Connected Car Conference
DESCRIPTION:From in-dash apps and telematics to vehicle-to-vehicle communication and autonomous cars\, automakers and their technology partners are reinventing the car in ways that no one could have imagined even a decade ago. \nBut this rapid\, technology-driven change in the auto industry is also proving disruptive. The Connected Car Conference (C3) at CE Week provides an ideal forum for industry leaders to meet\, discuss and move towards resolving these issues. Here are some topics that will be addressed by distinguished speakers and panelists: \nKeeping Pace with Consumer Electronics: Because of long product lead times\, automakers are at a disadvantage keeping pace with the rapid changes in consumer electronics. But through partnerships with technology companies\, the advent of software updates and industry-wide standards such as MirrorLink\, the auto industry is starting to react much faster. But it still has a ways to go. This panel of experts will discuss the “friction points” involved with adopting consumer electronics to car infotainment and how we they can be overcome. \nThe Future of Radio in the Car: For years\, AM /FM was the only form of radio in the car. Then came Sirius XM\, and now we’re seeing a flood of options in the form of Internet radio and streaming media services. Drivers have more alternatives than ever before. When sorting through the various options to decide what form of “radio” is best for the dashboard – and which technologies will stand the test of time – the choices can be baffling for both automakers and consumers alike. This panel brings together the most important players in the space to discuss what’s down the road for in-car radio. \nDealing with Driver Distraction: As car infotainment options multiply\, so does the potential for drivers to become distracted. At the same time\, automakers and their suppliers place a heavy emphasis – and spend considerable R&D dollars – to ensure that in-dash electronics are as safe to use as possible. With policymakers scrutinizing car infotainment systems and safety advocates often pointing a finger at automakers\, it’s difficult to cut through the clutter and separate scientific fact from media-frenzy fiction. This panel will explore what automakers and suppliers are doing to design systems that minimize distraction – and what still needs to be done to ensure safety. \nHow “Big Data” is the New In-Vehicle Content Driver: Because of the rapid growth of connectivity\, cars are becoming the biggest\, most powerful portable device people own\, and cars are also increasingly becoming one of the greatest consumers as well as producers of data. From drivers’ need for navigation and traffic info to the growth of connected infotainment in the car\, from an emphasis on real-time tracking of fuel efficiency to vehicle-to-vehicle communication\, data flowing to and from the car is changing how we drive – and also poised to make it a more productive and pleasant experience. This panel of experts will share their insights on how “big data” is become the driving force behind in-vehicle content. \nAt this half-day program will take place during the one of the consumer electronics industry’s biggest events\, which draws over 6\,000 attendees to the media capital of the world. Co-produced by car technology expert and distinguished journalist Doug Newcomb (Wired\, MSN Autos\, Edmunds.com)\, C3 will bring the best and brightest in the automotive and consumer electronics worlds to CE Week to drive the conversation on the connected car. \nWho’s attending: \nCar manufacturersOEM suppliersTrade and business mediaMarket analysts

SUMMARY:Workshop: Provision of EU-Wide Real-Time Traffic Information Services
DESCRIPTION:Workshop linked to the Directive 2010/40/EU (“ITS Directive”) \n“Provision of EU-Wide Real-Time Traffic Information Services” \n26 June 2013 – 10.00–16.00\, Hotel Bedford\, Rue du Midi 135-137 – Brussels \nAccurate real-time traffic information services empower users to make well-informed decisions both before and during their journeys and therefore they have the potential to contribute to reducing congestion\, increasing travel time reliability and improving road safety. \nDue to advances in data-collection technology and efficiency improvements in the way how data can be processed and distributed to users\, a proliferation of traffic information services is currently taking place throughout the EU. There is\, however\, a continuing concern that not all relevant data is made available or is correctly processed\, or that resulting information is not timely disseminated to users. Such risks can increase with the growth in the number of actors that are active in the traffic information service chain. \nThe ITS Directive foresees that specifications will be adopted by the European Commission to make EU-wide real-time traffic information services accurate and available to users across borders. These specifications will be binding and will need to aim at ensuring compatible and interoperable developments\, where possible based on existing standards and technology. The initiative will contribute to EU-wide continuity and harmonised delivery of traffic information services. \nCurrently\, the European Commission is conducting a study in support to the development of the specifications on the Provision of EU-Wide Real-Time Traffic Information Services (Priority action “b” of the ITS Directive). \nThe objective of the workshop is to inform interested stakeholders and gather their opinions on the key issues and possible options for the development of the specifications. \nKey topics to be discussed during the workshop include: \nTechnological developments and market trendsThe role of public authorities and the issues related to public-private co-operationThe availability of and access to public and private data and the conditions for the use and re-use of dataThe potential role for harmonisation and regulationThe challenges related to measuring\, monitoring and managing data qualityFindings and key issues will be discussed with participating stakeholders from the whole value chain through three panel sessions. \nTo register please send by email your name\, organisation and contact details with “Real-Time Traffic Information” in the subject field of the e-mail to move-its@ec.europa.eu by 18 June 2013 at the latest. \nPlease note that due to the capacity constraint of the meeting room (50 persons maximum) it might not be possible to accommodate all registration requests. We do apologise in advance\, and we ask you to register one person per organisation if possible. \nWorkshop material: Final programme [115 KB]

SUMMARY:Joint ITU/UNECE Inland Transport Committee (ITC) workshop on Intelligent Transport Systems in emerging markets - drivers for safe and sustainable growth
DESCRIPTION:You are kindly invited to join the ITU/UNECE workshop on “Intelligent transport systems in emerging markets – drivers for safe and sustainable growth” that will take place at ITU Headquarters in Geneva\, Switzerland on 27 June 2013. \nThe UNECE Inland Transport Committee (ITC) is jointly organising this one day workshop with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)\, in the framework of its “Road Map for promoting ITS – 20 global actions 2012 – 2020” and as the 2013 round-table after the ITS kick-off event on 28 February 2012\, that many of you so greatly supported. \nThe forthcoming event will be focusing on ITS in emerging markets and its impact on road safety. So this event is another milestone in 2013\, during the year of ICT’s and the decade of action for road safety. Additionally\, it would be great if we could build a bridge between the 9th ITS European congress in Dublin\, 4 – 7 June 2013 and the ITS World Congress in Tokyo\, 14 – 18 October 2013\, such as following-up on Dublin\, and forwarding our findings of the round-table to Tokyo. In that sense\, the UNECE Inland Transport Committee and ITU will play their role as global platforms to advocate ITS. \nGiven the importance of the debate at the workshop your personal participation would be most appreciated. I believe that the event will offer a unique opportunity to meet government officials\, private sector and academia representatives. \nThe programme and all Information on the workshop can be found here: http://www.itu.int/en/ITU-T/Workshops-and-Seminars/its-em/201306/Pages/default.aspx \nRegistration is open now\, so fill in the online form and join us! \nThe meeting will be conducted in English. \nShould you require more information\, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Robert Nowak (tel: +41 22 917 1267\, e-mail: robert.nowak@unece.org).

SUMMARY:European Mobility Week
DESCRIPTION:Cities and towns across Europe and beyond are encouraged to make a real difference to mobility in their area by signing up and taking part inEuropean Mobility Week 2013. \nThe campaign is an excellent opportunity to promote sustainable mobility to citizens\, enact a new measure related to better public transport\, and to progress towards a more sustainable\, efficient and pleasant mobility culture. Registration can be completed online and each registered city is displayed on the European Mobility Week website. \nAll local authorities that represent a town or city are invited to get involved. Last year’s campaign saw a total of 2\,158 cities from 39 countries register their participation. \nTo be eligible\, the registering authority must comply with a charter drawn up in consultation with various national European partners. Alternatively\, where appropriate\, a charter that has been adapted to the national constraints of a country is acceptable. \nBy signing the charter\, cities commit to three measures: to organise a week of activities around this year’s theme “Clean air – it’s your move!”\, to implement at least one new permanent measure which contributes to modal transfer from the private car to an environmentally sound means of transport\, and to set aside one or several areas that are reserved solely for pedestrians\, cyclists and public transport for at least one whole day (“In Town Without My Car” day). \nNon-commercial organisations operating at EU level can also get involved by becoming an Associated Partner. Associated Partners contribute to the success of the campaign by promoting and supporting participation\, sharing their expertise and involving their members or member associations. \nThis year\, the campaign will focus on cleaning our air through better mobility choices. Under the theme “Clean air – it’s your move!” the link between mobility and air quality will be explored\, as well as the myriad health and environmental benefits that come with lowering urban air pollution. More information on this year’s theme is available in the Thematic Guidelines 2013. \nTo register\, click here.

SUMMARY:Global Smart City China Congress & Award
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Global Smart City China Congress & Award \nGlobal Smart City China Congress & Award will serve as a platform for all the stakeholders involved in smart cities to disseminate\, share and exchange information\, make new collaborations\, and work together to discover and expand business opportunities. \nInfo: By the middle of the 21st century\, it is estimated that the urban population will almost double\, increasing from approximately 3.4 billion in 2009 to 6.4 billion in 2050\, representing 70% of the world’s population. The scale of urbanization is unprecedented and the process is still ongoing across the Asia Pacific region and the globe. Cities will be at the heart of world development in the next few decades. Nevertheless\, this urban world comes with a complex set of environmental\, economic and social challenges: climate change\, high consumption of energy\, depleting of natural resources\, slowdown in economic development and higher demands from citizens for better services and greater participation in public decision. In this context\, government and business leader came to the realization that cities must take the lead to keep pace with rapid technological change\, and create networks that connect people\, knowledge and services. If we fully utilize the range of technologies that are now available and build smarter cities\, we will not only find solutions to age‐old issues but also break through into new thresholds of development. \nVisit the website for further information:  http://www.szwgroup.com/2013/smartcity/index.asp
