SUMMARY:Opening Symposium Automotive Week
DESCRIPTION:Are you dealing with smart mobility developments as a professional\, employer or road user? Then Connecting Mobility and DITCM Innovations would like to invite you to the opening symposium on Wednesday\, March 25th\, 2015. In the Netherlands we invested these last years in pilots and innovations in smart mobility. In cooperation with government\, market parties and knowledge institutes we paved the way for the future of mobility\, in which we can use a broad spectrum of developments\, knowledge and experience. We want to make a step forward: from research and testing\, now to start doing! And we are going to involve the roaduser even more. \nIn the symposium\, held in Helmond (The Netherlands)\, three speakers (Justus Verkerk\, FCCE\, Marianne Dwarshuis\, ANWB and Vincent Everts) will inspire the participants to think different. And together with the moderator\, Maarten Bouwhuis (Business News Radio BNR) we would like to seduce them considering new roads en make a next step with innovations. We want to raise the point of the dynamics that smart mobility developments bring about: working together\, co-creation\, crowdsourcing. In short\, bundeling skills and know-how to keep innovating. And share experiences in order to claim a position as frontrunner in smart mobility for The Netherlands. Our ambition is that participants are challenged to be frontrunners themselves. \nRead more here

SUMMARY:Social Media and Transport Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Organised by: Transport Systems Catapult \nAdress: Ground Floor\, The Pinnacle\, 170 Midsummer Boulevard\, Central Milton Keynes\, MK9 1BP \nProgramme \nSocial Networking is an important feature of many people’s lives\, both personally and professionally. \nIt is also having an impact on transport. People may learn about a road traffic accident through Twitter before they hear about it from their traffic information service. Car-sharing is more acceptable with “Facebook Friends” than it is with strangers. \nThe seminar will address “Social Media in Transport”\, including its use for the National Roads Authority in Dublin\, and how technology & gamification can be used to encourage travel behaviour change. (According to Wikipedia “gamification” is the use of game thinking and game mechanics in non-game contexts to engage users in solving problems and increase users’ self-contributions) \nSeminar Chair – Dr John Walker\, TRG\, Southampton University \n1. Welcome & Introduction by: Dr John Walker \n2. How ‘Gamification’ Delivered through Technology can create Longterm Modal Shift – Crispin Moller\, Yomp \nUsing Social Media for the National Roads Authority (eFlow) in Dublin – Simon McBeth\, Sanef Tolling LtdPerception as Data – technology to help gather and understand information about user needs in transport – Mike Saunders\, CommonplaceUsing Social Media during travel disruption – Ian Wright\, Passenger FocusSocial Media\, Disruption Information and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games – Paul Everson\, Trapeze Group (UK) Ltd(Title- tbc) – Charlie Sundt\, Transport for London \n8. SUMMARY:Improving Cycling Safety using ITS
DESCRIPTION:The VRUITS project\, which is sponsored by the European Commission (DG MOVE)\, aims at providing recommendations regarding ITS applications for the improvement of the safety and mobility for Vulnerable Road Users. VRUITS assesses the societal impact of selected ITS applications and demonstrates the use of innovative ITS applications for VRUs. \nIn Helmond\, the VRUITS project will demonstrate how vehicles and cyclists can communicate with each other. For example\, vehicle drivers can receive warnings of possible collisions with cyclists and the vehicle brakes automatically to avoid the collision or cyclists are personally warned for collisions. \nIn the seminar the VRUITS partners will discuss how ITS can be used to improve cycling safety. The use of Cooperative ITS for cyclists will receive specific stress. At the end of the seminar\, participants will be able to visit the VRUITS Helmond test site. \nSeminar Programme \n09:00 Participants Arrival and Registration \n09:30 Keynote speech (Rob Methorst\, Rijkswaterstaat) \n09:50 VRUITS project and assessment results (Johan Scholliers\, VTT) \n10:10 Improving safety of elderly cyclists (Stefanie de Hair\, TNO) \n10:30 Coffee break \n11:00 Helmond and C-ITS (Daniel de Klein\, City of Helmond) \n11:20 Mobility data of cyclists (NN\, TNO) \n11:40 Industrial perspective for C-ITS (Kees Moerman\, NXP) \n12:00 The Helmond VRUITS demonstration (Esra van Dam\, TNO) \n12:20 Lunch and transportation to the demonstration site \n13:30 Visit to the demonstration site \n14:30 Seminar closure \nFor more information and to register\, click here

SUMMARY:Workshop: Cooperative ITS and self-driving vehicles for road authorities
DESCRIPTION:Location: Automotive Campus\, Helmond\, The Netherlands \nBeter Bereikbaar Zuidoost-Brabant (BBZOB) is one of the partners of the Automotive Week. April 1 has been pronounced to Day of the Road Authorities. In cooperation with partners\, Compass4D\, CROW\, ViM\, MAPtm\, Connecting Mobility\, Connekt\, Province of Noord-Brabant and Rijkswaterstaat\, BBZOB organizes one of the three workshops: Beter Benutten (Optimising use) Cooperative-ITS. Workshop 2 is about practical aspects of introducing ITS applications (Compass4D). And workshop 3 is about testing with self-driving vehicles (CROW\, Connekt\, Rijkswaterstaat). This day is dedicated to smart vehicles on smart infrastructure. What kind of problems can we solve with which innovative & smart solutions? \nBerry de Jong\, projectmanager BBZOB says: “It surprises me that people focus on others traffic behavior. Those comments are on top of the top 10 of worst traffic annoyances. As a traffic specialist\, I think it’s frustrating if I have to wait for a traffic light while there is no other traffic. Can we do you better than that? And which role do you have to take as a road authority? \n“In theory\, it seems easy to organize our traffic and transport more efficiently\, less traffic jams\, safer traffic and more comfortable driving for road users. The technology is now available. What do we need for deployment? It’s time to identify potential opportunities and put those into practice. If we can unite road authorities and the automotive industry and if we come up with practical solutions to our mobility problems\, the Automotive Week has been very successful to me. “ \nIf you are not fully aware of Cooperative ITS\, but curious anyway? You are warmly welcomed to attend! This is the ultimate opportunity to learn more\, ask questions and participate in the workshops! Register here.
