SUMMARY:5G Corridors Workshop 2023
DESCRIPTION:On 10 October\, in Brussels\, the GUIDE project\, in collaboration with the European Commission and with the support of the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA)  and DG Connect\, is set to host a significant face-to-face workshop aimed at advancing the deployment of 5G corridors across Europe. Coen Bresser\, Senior Manager at ERTICO and ERTICO lead of the project will moderate a roundtable on lessons learnt from study to deployment with CEF 5G Corridor Project Coordinators. \nThe event is poised to review and discuss the two 5G Strategic Deployment Agendas published in 2020 concerning the fields of rail and road providing invaluable guidance to ongoing 5G corridor deployment efforts\, with active participation expected from both the public and private sectors. The event also seeks to foster collaboration and stimulate the development of EU-funded projects in the 5G corridor space. The workshop will build upon the foundation laid by the CEF Digital Call 1 projects and actively engage stakeholders in strategic dialogues with the aim of defining priority deployment roadmaps and exploring various cooperation models. Additionally\, the event will serve as a platform for sharing best practices and lessons learned from ongoing initiatives. \nThe deployment of 5G cross-border corridors along key transportation routes within Europe holds promise for the region’s green and digital transformation. In particular\, the implementation of 5G-enabled Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) is viewed as a catalyst for enhancing transport safety\, optimising traffic management\, reducing CO₂ emissions\, and boosting industrial competitiveness across all transportation and mobility sectors. This transformative potential extends to road\, rail\, waterways\, and logistics\, as they all stand to benefit from the advanced 5G infrastructure to optimize their respective use cases and services. \nIn a nutshell\, this workshop represents an important moment in the journey towards the widespread deployment of 5G corridors across Europe. It brings together key stakeholders\, experts\, and decision-makers to strategise\, share knowledge\, and foster cooperation in pursuit of the green and digital transformation of the EU economy and society. \n  \nFind out the agenda and register here to save your seat! \n

SUMMARY:ERTICO discusses AI act and Traffic Management
DESCRIPTION:ERTICO follows the ongoing discussions related to the EU’s agenda and priorities\, but also hot topics within and beyond the ITS and Smart Mobility community. The current dialogue of the AI Act is of high relevance\, and ERTICO has the great pleasure of taking this opportunity to invite the Supervisory Board and Strategy Committee today\, Wednesday 18 October\, to its internal Workshop to discuss the AI Act and Traffic Management\, moderated by Dr Johanna Tzanidaki\, Chief Innovation Officer at ERTICO. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a better understanding of the AI Act debate in Traffic Management and engage in discussion on how it influences our ITS sector and traffic management. \n\n\n\nThe EU institutions are to reach an agreement on the AI ACT before the end of the year. The European Commission specifically\, has started to prepare a list of guidelines to be released in support of the AI ACT implementation as soon as the law is adopted. The inclusion of the management and operation of road traffic in the list of High-Risk systems in the Act’s Annex III has an impact on the business of Traffic Service Providers and the Traffic Industry at large. Regulating how AI is used and developed within the EU in order to ensure that the use of AI does not jeopardize citizens’ safety\, security\, and fundamental rights are valid arguments. However\, the future High-Risk sector-specific guidelines should recognise that in the case of Traffic Management\, the role that AI plays in the decision-making process must be examined from a number of perspectives (Strategic; Tactical; Operational). Accordingly\, the important criticality lies on whether the decision in managing traffic is taken by the AI system/tool or the human in the loop. The workshop will include presentations on the relevant use cases and how much AI makes Traffic Management high risk\, as this is defined in Annex III of the AI Act. ERTICO Strategy Committee Chairs\, Thomas Jaeger\, Dekra\, and Gino Franco\, SWARCO\, will open the workshop followed by an introduction to the AI Act by ERTICO CEO\, Joost Vantomme. \n\n\nSpeakers include the TM 2.0 Task Force members: Jorgen Bundgaard Wanscher (HERMES Traffic International) Annet Van Veenendaal (NDW/RWS- Ministry of the Netherlands) Carolien Mazal (TomTom) Bart Lannoo (BE MOBILE) Torben Titze (SWARCO) Franz Schober (YUNEX Traffic) Fabrizio Paoletti (Autostrade per L’italia)
