SUMMARY:Safety and Mobility of Vulnerable Road Users ITS applications addressing the needs of VRUs
DESCRIPTION:First Interest Group Workshop\, 18TH September 2013\, ERTICO\, Brussels\nRegistration and agenda\nThe VRUITS project\, sponsored by the European Commission (DG MOVE)\, aims at providing recommendations regarding Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) applications for the improvement of the safety and mobility for Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs such as pedestrians\, cyclists\, PTWs\, special user groups\, elder drivers). \nVRUITS will assess the societal impact of selected ITS applications and provide recommendations for policy and industry regarding ITS in order to improve the safety and mobility of VRUs. The VRUITS project wants to discuss the results of the rst half year of work\, on the identication of the main critical scenarios and the user needs of VRUs\, by joining forces with the iMobility Forum Vulnerable road users working group and discuss themost promising ITS applications. \nDuring the workshop\, participants will gain a better knowledge on the needs of VRUs\, and on the possible applications which may improve the safety and mobility of VRUs. The planned outcome of the workshop is a list of ITS applications\, which will be assessed in more detail during the project lifetime. The iMobility Forum is a joint platform open for all road stakeholders interested in ICT-based systems and services. The Working Groups of the iMoiblity Forum are focusing on domain-specic priority areas that are important for the implementation of the Euroepan Commission policies. \nWithin the context of the iMobility Forum\, aiming at well-established targets related to safety and ecient transport and road management by using Information and Communication Technologies\, a new Working Group on Vulnerable Road Users safety (VRU WG) has been established. The VRU WG aims at creating a forum encompassing all key stakeholders in the area of Vulnerable Road Users safety enhancement\, and at contributing to the specic objectives and targets of the European Commission addressed within the “Horizonn 2020” initiative.

SUMMARY:iMobility Forum - Standardisation and Certification Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Download the preliminary agenda \nITS standardisation has reached a level of maturity enabling many applications and services to reach the marketplace. Most of the ITS applications are based on communication services requiring interoperability as well as some minimum level of performance and reliability. Certification is therefore critical to allow the successful deployment of ITS systems and services. \nThis workshop aims at introducing the certification issues\, being a relevant part of the whole standardisation process. Furthermore needs from different stakeholders about certification will be presented and discussed.  Finally\, testing tools and methodologies forming the essential part of the certification toolbox will be explained. \nThe workshop comprises 3 sessions that address the following topics: \nSession 1: Enabling ITS certification through standardisation ITS systems will rely on interoperable services\, granted by international standards. Certification schemes will therefore refer to requirements stated in these standards. Furthermore certification requires using testing procedures published by SODs in technical specification standards. The absence of an EU-wide scheme for standardisation and the certification of ITS systems has been a major cause for the fragmentation of ITS systems deployment. This hampers investments and efficiency\, and it hinders interoperability as a major driver for deployment. Certification is necessary to make investors\, road operators\, public Authority\, ITS vendors\, vehicle manufacturer and end users confident about cooperative ITS devices. \nSession 2: Stakeholder needs on ITS Certification Interoperability is a capability of the ITS systems and services that shall be assessed at a global level. However stakeholders from different ITS sectors are likely to have different needs. Understanding the needs from all relevant stakeholders is critical to ensure a global certification framework is applied to ITS systems and services. This session aims at presenting stakeholder views. Furthermore\, discussions among the relevant stakeholders shall take place to collect requirements and needs for suitable certification activities. \nSession 3: Toolbox for certification of ITS systems and services Certifying equipment results from assessing its compliancy against requirements\, a process which requires carrying out many different and complementary tests. The certification toolbox includes tools and methodologies necessary to perform the compliancy tests. Testing experts will use their know-how to provide comprehensive presentation of the toolbox components.
