Romanian politicians have proposed new legislation that will require purchases of new municipal public transport to feature at least 50 per cent electric vehicles.
Six members of parliament have submitted the bill to the Romanian Senate in the hope that it will reduce pollution in cities and promote green transport.
If passed, the obligation will also apply to school buses and minibuses, and private companies that provide transport in cities and metropolitan areas.
