The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Strategic Planning process is underway.
The next ITS Strategic Plan is focused on developing a blueprint for how the Department will allocate federal ITS research funds during the second half of this decade and the USDOT have announced a series of webinars as part of the ITS strategic planning process.
The webinars are an opportunity for stakeholders to provide input and perspectives that are necessary for the development of the plan. The ITS Joint Program Office (JPO) is leading this effort and will provide an overview of the strategic planning process and the work done to date during the webinars. Facilitated discussion will generate various viewpoints based on various focus areas of interest to webinar participants. They will also discuss our current effort around developing strategic goals and objectives.
To learn more about the ITS JPO visit www.its.dot.gov, and to read current status and provide feedback through our focused website, please visit: http://www.its.dot.gov/press/2013/stakeholder_strategicplan.htm
Registration is open to anyone, though all webinars will have a core focus audience, in order to concentrate on issues and questions specific to various stakeholder groups. In addition, stay tuned for announcements about ITS JPO strategic planning sessions at several conferences over the summer and fall.

Background
The Next ITS Strategic Plan will identify the ITS-related research, development, and education areas that USDOT will focus on for the rest of the decade. As part of this effort, the ITS JPO is conducting interviews, internal staff discussion sessions, and external stakeholder workshops and webinars to develop a Strategic Plan that supports the ITS JPO’s overall mission—“to conduct research, development, and education to facilitate the adoption of information and communication technology to enable society to move intelligently”. The feedback collected during the stakeholder workshops and webinars will be key inputs to the development of the draft external ITS Strategic Plan. The stakeholder engagement webinars will further support the future implementation and success of the ITS Strategic Plan through a discussion on how to best frame goals and objectives to better support and fulfill the missions of the JPO many stakeholders.
