Vitoria’s mayor has announced the development of a electric bus rapid-transport (BRT) system to serve 14 districts of the city and 40 per cent of the population.
In his announcement speech, Mayor Gorka Urtaran said that he hoped the new BRT service would be ‘a qualitative leap towards sustainable mobility’ and make Vitoria-Gasteiz a pioneer of sustainable transport.
The system will upgrade a bus line that covers the districts on the city’s outskirts with lanes dedicated for bus use and using electric vehicles. A number of these districts are scheduled to be the locations for a number of urban planning improvements.
