Viajeo PLUS contributed with two sessions to the Transport Research Arena 2016, which was held on 18 – 21 April 2016 in Warsaw, Poland.
Session TWM1 Electromobility Development in Cities, 20 April
“Infrastructure to facilitate usage of electric vehicles and its impact”
Viajeo PLUS coordinator Yanying Li (ERTICO ITS-Europe) presented the paper “Infrastructure to facilitate usage of electric vehicles and its impact”.
Electric vehicles (EV) are one of the most popular off-the-shelf options to reduce toxic emissions in urban areas. However, they require specific infrastructure, such as charging stations, which are not always widely available. Unfortunately, until the infrastructure is not available the economic, social and environmental benefits of electric vehicles can hardly be untapped.
Commitment of public authorities to blaze a trail for electro-mobility varies from country to country. For instance, in China, where many city dwellers suffer from poor air quality, the government has invested in EV infrastructure, installing 800 charging stations in some of its main cities. China aims to promote energy efficient and cleaner means of public and private transport. This support has led to the flourishing of the EV industry.
Session TWA2 Mobility Management, 20 April
“Innovative public transport in Europe, Asia and Latin America: a survey of recent implementations”
Guido Di Pasquale (Pluservice, Italy) presented the paper developed by him and his colleagues Alessandro Santiago dos Santos, Adriano Galindo Leal and Michele Tozzi. Mr Di Pasquale emphasized the importance of cooperation and cross-learning for all stakeholders involved in the project.
Innovative and green solutions on urban mobility which have been adopted in Europe can be adapted in the other target regions, inversely, European decision-makers can find inspiration on the solution implemented elsewhere. Along these lines, cooperation through Viajeo PLUS proved to be important for industries and SMEs to investigate potential markets in Asia and Latin America.
Around 60 people attended to the session, including public authorities, transport operators (e.g. TMB Barcelona), international organisation (e.g. Polis), universities and industry representatives. They were particularly thrilled by the methodology used for the selection of case studies and best practice within the project.
A Polish city authority expressed his interest in Viajeo PLUS deliverables and Virtual Solution Book and he committed to explore the possibility to replicate some of the solutions showcased by the project in his own circumscription.
