Within the scope of the “8th Portuguese Road Congress” recently held in Lisbon, at the Congress Centre of LNEC (National Laboratory for Civil Engineering), the SGMAI (General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration) which is the leader of the I_HeERO Portuguese consortium, decided to answer to a call for papers published by the Congress Organizing Committee.
The proposed paper entitled “The I_HeERO project and the implementation of eCall in Portugal” was accepted after an assessment carried out by the Review Committee and it aimed to report to a wide audience of key stakeholders and experts, the actual status of the eCall implementation in Portugal and the future status we expect to achieve in August 2017, as an output from the participation in the I_HeERO project.
The live communication of the paper took place 14 April 2016 and was included in the “Road Safety” track of parallel sessions of the congress. It was a great chance to provide researchers, practitioners and other stakeholders an opportunity to learn about I_HeERO roadmap in Portugal and its main goals as well as discuss about eCall features and advantages.
The edition of the event, features in addition to the Portuguese participants, the participation of Mozambique as guest country and it also counted on the participation of delegates from various other Portuguese-speaking countries. A total of approximately 350 participants attended the event.
Abstract
The I_HeERO project (Harmonized eCall European Deployment) is aimed at supporting the implementation of the infrastructure of eCall, in accordance with European standards, in all Member States of the European Union.
Given the need to ensure the necessary support for the implementation of eCall in Portugal, which is one of its main responsibilities in a wider project concerning 112.pt, SGMAI (General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration) took the initiative to express its interest in joining the I_HeERO project proposal.
The proposal was approved by the EU and SGMAI is currently leading a Portuguese consortium that within the scope of I_HeERO, should ensure that the necessary infrastructure for receiving and processing eCalls in Portugal, will be properly implemented, fully tested and duly certified until August 2017.
