b2ap3_thumbnail_Awards-2.jpgThe Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) – Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) has been awarded with the National Award for Research at the “2014 Transport and Logistics Awards” on 29 May. The awards were organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks, the Ministry of Development and Competitiveness and the Ministry of Mercantile Marine. Dr Georgia Aifadopoulou, Head of the HIT Department “Surface Transport and Networks” and Dr Evangelos Mitsakis, Head of the Unit “Planning, Management and Analysis of Transport and Traffic Systems” received the prestigious award.

The “Transport and Logistics Awards 2014” were given to the best projects and initiatives in the areas of Supply Chain and Transport that aim to promote excellence and innovation in the transport sector. CERTH-HIT applied to this contest, under the ITS for passenger transport category, for the ITS infrastructures and cooperative mobility services that will be soon piloted in the framework of the EU funded Compass4D project.

The participation of Thessaloniki in the Compass4D project is part of the ITS Deployment Strategy and the Smart City Road Map, which is endorsed and actively supported by the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Region of Central Macedonia, CERTH-HIT and all the mobility sector stakeholders of the city.

Aiming to improve urban mobility, safety and energy efficiency while respecting the environment, the Thessaloniki Compass4D pilot provides speed advice and road hazard alerts along Tsimiski Street, the main urban arterial, and the Peripheral Ring Road.
