The transport sector is striving to become more digital. Various standards to achieve this are already available. However, many of them are not yet interoperable. GS1, a Member of ERTICO-coordinated project FENIX, has launched a survey to investigate standardisation gaps and future opportunities in multimodal transport networks and digital logistics platforms.

According to a 2019 study by the German digital association Bitkom, the future of logistics is digital. By 2030 at the latest, AI, robots, and digital platforms will play a decisive role in determining processes. At the same time, four out of five companies fear digitalisation as one of the industry’s most significant challenges. Nevertheless, the COVID-19 pandemic has almost wholly erased concerns in the German economy about digitalisation. In fact, during the pandemic, 31 % of invoices were issued electronically. Only 19% still exclusively use paper, while 47% use both methods. For the very first time, the volume of digital invoices has taken the lead.

With regards to the transport and logistics industry, where invoicing represents a prominent aspect, FENIX Member GS1 has launched a survey to investigate various elements, such as the standards used to optimise route planning and dynamic re-routing based on real-time visibility, how to ensure the accurate, reliable and event-based flow of information between the different logistics actors and more.

FENIX and GS1 call on all interested parties to contribute to this survey by 31 August and advance the digitalisation of the logistics industry.

This survey is anonymous and will take 10 to 15 minutes. The results will be published in autumn 2021, and each participant will receive a copy of the completed evaluation.
