The German city of Freiburg has taken delivery of six brand new trams which have just gone into operation.
Six more trams of the same type will be delivered in 2017. The new trams will go into service on lines 3 and 5, which serve the south-west and north of the city.
The trams are CAF Urbos 100 LRVs, which are low-floor models offering easy access to people with mobility problems. Each tram has a maximum capacity of 66 seated passengers and 241 standing, and are fitted with air conditioning.
The trams joining Freiburg’s fleet this year will help to manage capacity in preparation for the completion of a tram link to the city’s exhibition centre. Those coming in 2017 will serve a new line currently under construction.
The city’s transport authority is currently working on expanding the tram network further across the city, with a total investment of around € 150m.
