Speaking at the 3rd World Congress on Collaborative Mobility in Innsbruck the IRU showcased the Global Taxi Network that links legal taxi smartphone apps from around the world to allow customers to access high quality, legal taxi services anytime, anywhere. The importance of taxi industry innovation and the clear need to adhere to regulations put in place to protect customers and drivers’ working conditions was also stressed.
The IRU outlined its efforts taken with the European Commission to consider, as a first step, proposing an Access to the Profession regime for taxis and hire cars with driver in Europe. The IRU also welcomed the decision by France to fully implement its ban on the Uber Pop service. Furthermore the IRU reiterated its call for all EU member states to respect the rule of law and fully enforce court rulings against illegal ride sharing platforms in order to create a level competitive playing field within the sector.
