Gothenburg, February 4th, 2014: Mediamobile, the leading provider of broadcast traffic information in Europe, today announced the signing of a deal with Volvo Cars that will see the company’s V-Traffic information service included in Volvo Cars in-car navigation systems. Initially, the deal covers the provision of a lifetime1 traffic service across 13 European countries – with more planned in the future.
Volvo Cars, with its Swedish origins, has perfectly understood that road users’ needs differ from one region to another. Driving safely in Scandinavia’s tough climate is a different proposition from staying mobile on southern Europe’s congested roads.
With the aim to provide the traffic services best adapted to the needs of all its drivers, wherever they are located, Volvo Cars has opted for V-Traffic RDS-TMC Europe, a suite of genuinely local traffic services with European coverage. By offering drivers high-quality, lifetime traffic information, free to use2– even across national boundaries – the carmaker will help customers avoid traffic hazards and increase their comfort and safety on the road. “Volvo Cars can now deliver top-quality traffic information to drivers across Europe.” said Petter Djerf, Key Account Director for Volvo at Mediamobile. “The central agreement with Mediamobile allows them to focus on enhancing the overall driving experience rather than administrating multiple national service contracts.”
In the late 1990s, Volvo Cars was one of the first automakers to incorporate RDS-TMC traffic services into their vehicles as part of the company’s drive to improve road user safety. Today, motorists regard the reliable service as essential.
The new V-Traffic RDS-TMC Europe offering – provided as a factory-installed lifetime service – is also a perfect complement to the connected traffic services provided by certain in-car navigation systems. The hybrid combination of RDS-TMC broadcast services with data delivered over the Internet means drivers have access to vital traffic information at all times, and no longer have to depend on the variable quality of their mobile network connection.
The V-Traffic RDS-TMC Europe service was developed by Mediamobile in close collaboration with four major European partners: Be-Mobile, Trafficmaster, Infoblu and TrafficNav. What sets the V-Traffic information service apart is its focus on local events, based on real-time data collected from road users and a wide variety of other local data providers. A broad network of local information centres compiles, analyses and refines the data, and broadcasts the resulting high-quality traffic information to V-Traffic users.
