The ITS World Congress 2017, produced by ITS America in conjunction with ITS Canada and co-organized by ITS Europe and ITS Asia-Pacific, is honoured to announce that Canada’s Minister of Transport, the Honourable Marc Garneau, will speak at the ITS World Congress in Montréal, Quebec on 31 October.
Minister Garneau’s entire career has been in the public service. During his 15 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, Minister Garneau was selected from more than four thousand applicants to become the first Canadian astronaut to fly in space. He served as a crew member aboard three Space Shuttle missions, spending more than 675 hours in space.
Minister Garneau has also served as Vice President, and then later as President, of the Canadian Space Agency. He was appointed Companion of the Order of Canada, Canada’s highest civilian honour in 2003. In 2008, he was elected as Member of Parliament for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce–Westmount, Quebec, and reelected in 2011 and 2015. He was the Liberal House of Commons Leader in 2011. In 2015, Minister Garneau was named Minister of Transport by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

In his position as Minister of Transport, he has emphasized the important role played by intelligent transportation in Canada and worked diligently to put forth his strategic vision for transportation in Canada, Transportation 2030.
