The latest edition of ALICE Collaborative Innovation Days took place on 4 April 2019 at the ERTICO premises in Brussels. The event under the theme “Logistics information spaces: from data to value” was hosted and organised by AEOLIX in close cooperation with the SELIS project. More than 100 transport and logistics professional attended the event which saw participation by the European Commission, Rijkswaterstaat, TNO, Deutsche Telekom and many other key players in the data and logistics field.
The morning started with a welcome and general introduction of the event concept and topic by Eusebiu Catana, AEOLIX project coordinator and Fernando Liesa, Secretary-General of ALICE. First session of presentations with the topic: Logistics Data Sharing and Eco-Systems: Public authorities initiatives, was introduced by Gzim Ocakoglu,Deputy Head of Unit, DG-MOVE, European Commission. Gzim Ocakoglu presented the European perspective on logistics and data and introduced initiatives like DTLF, eFTI and others. Three member states: the Netherlands, Finland and Spain, then presented their national strategies and developments in the same order with Roeland van Bockel (RWS), Noora Lahde (Trafficlab) and Jaime Luezas Alvarado (SIMPLE project).
The second session was introduced by moderator Thorsten Hulsmann of the Effizienz Cluster Management and focused on logistics data spaces, markets and eco-systems. Harrie Bastiaansen talked about the Data Sovereignty in Logistics and The International Data Spaces Initiatives at TNO. Karsten Schweichhart from Deutsche Telekom who raised the issue of data silos and data islands: he concluded that data sharing is a prerequisite for business ecosystems.
The first panel discussion followed next with Sergio Barbarino, P&G & ALICE Chair, Marnix Vermaas, VISMA Connect, Nathalie Luyckx, Gosselin Group & Air Cargo Belgium and Jaco Voorspuij, GS1 Europe. The panelists discussed the barriers to data sharing and the role of data sovereignty as a tool to enable and build trust for data sharing. The interested audience asked interesting questions during the Q&A session and discussed how could the companies be encouraged to share more data and embrace transparency.
The second half of the day focused on a new generation of platforms and included presentations by Transforming Transport, AEOLIX and SELIS projects. Dimitris Bakas (ITML) gave an introduction to the business cases for e-commerce logistics and shared success stories from Transforming Transport.
Following, Nikos Tsampieris, INLECO and SELIS, presented the SELIS – The Shared European Logistics Intelligent Information Space. Eusebiu Catana, ERTICO, presented the AEOLIX data sharing platform which strives towards a harmonised European logistics data eco-system. Georgia Aifadopoulou, CERTH and her team the interoperability between the two platforms, AEOLIX and SELIS.
Afterwards followed the panel discussion with Gzim Ocakoglu, European Commission, Thorsten Hulsmann, Effizienzcluster and Eusebiu Catana, ERTICO. The discussion focused on the main conclusions of the event and the next steps and was moderated by Nik Delmeire of the European Shippers Council. Gzim Ocakoglu, European Commission closed the event with final remarks and conclusions.
