Until recently, satellite positioning has been the only satellite technology recognised as being valuable to the ITS community. The price of satellite communications devices and services are now reaching the point where they are relevant for ITS, some of these were demonstrated at ITS Glasgow. It is clear from the many conversations that were held at the ITS Congress that many services can now offer value today, and they will become increasingly valuable to complement terrestrial services for providing ubiquitous vehicle connectivity in the near future.

Satellite Applications Catapult welcome a very successful week with excellent engagement by all the people that visited the demonstrations – from government stakeholders to industrial primes and SMEs innovating in the sector. This year’s success, which builds upon the positive impact we made at the ITS Congress in Bordeaux last year, demonstrates the potential that satellite services can offer towards increasing value for ITS related applications across Europe.
