ERTICO is pleased to announce that Seville City Council and its Department for Mobility have joined its Partnership.

Seville City Council and, in particular, its Department for Mobility, work on promoting solutions that make mobility efficient, sustainable and accessible for everyone. Their commitment to sustainable mobility features a combination of infrastructure projects and the use of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and will allow for Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solutions that are more efficient while keeping the focus on the user. As part of this, when considering available transport system options, decarbonised public transit is a priority. Such transport may take the form of developing new tram lines, creating reserved platforms for bus rapid transit and efficient conventional bus lines, or promoting the development and construction of the metro network. All of these efforts will help create a variety of transport options and improved connectivity in the metropolitan area, and the San Bernardo and Santa Justa transit hubs in Seville are prime examples of this sort of development.

Seville itself puts its commitment to active mobility in action through policies that create safe areas for people travelling on foot, such as turning streets into pedestrian zones and implementing traffic calming measures. Additionally, Seville is a European leader in urban bicycle usage, boasting a thorough biking network that lets riders travel throughout the city.

“We have taken the step of joining ERTICO with the purpose of Seville achieving leadership in sustainable mobility through safer, smarter and cleaner transport services so that, within this network, we work on innovation and development of solutions in smart mobility,” says Jose Luis Sanz, Mayor of Seville.

The ERTICO Partnership bridges the gaps between stakeholders across the ITS community to help make mobility safer, more efficient and sustainable. Together, we lead the digital transformation of transport through the development of cutting-edge technologies, new services and innovative mobility solutions to move people and goods in smarter ways. Our Partners share the joint mission to actively promote sustainable collaborative relations with EU institutions and policymakers by connecting local and regional transport organisations with national authorities.

Seville City Council should emphasise that Intelligent Transport Systems are necessary to tackle challenges in developing the mobility of the future, a major current project of the Seville -TUSSAM transit authority and the mobility services department.

CEO of ERTICO, Joost Vantomme shares his warm welcome, “We are delighted to announce Seville and its Department for Mobility as our new member of the ERTICO Partnership. Their innovative work in developing efficient public transit, active mobility initiatives, and decarbonisation aligns seamlessly with our shared vision for a safer, smarter, and more sustainable mobility future.” He continues, “We are thrilled to embark on this collaborative journey, and we look forward to the close cooperation to deliver a successful event next year,  the 16th ITS European Congress, hosted in Seville from 2-4 June 2025.”

Joining the ERTICO Partnership is an important way to connect the dots between different sectors across our complex ecosystem.
