The city of Olomouc in the Czech Republic is preparing to install a smart traffic management system that it hopes will improve traffic flow during peak hours.
The new system, the installation of which municipal officials hope will begin next year, will involve controlling traffic lights at major intersections from a remote control centre, where staff will oversee a new camera system.
The city will also install smart traffic signals that display speed limits, which control centre staff will monitor and, when appropriate, modify to ensure smoother passages of traffic.
