Bulgaria’s capital has recently introduced a smart e-ticketing system for public transport. Thanks to a 42.5-million-euro contract, financed by the Center for Urban Mobility, which is Sofia’s municipal company in charge of public transport, the city will be equipped with 1 350 vehicles with 7 500 electronic ticket validation devices.

The new electronic ticket will replace paper tickets and allow passengers a one-way trip in more than one means of transport. E-tickets will be stored on mobile phones or bank cards and it will be possible to purchase them online, thus avoiding queues and delays.
