From 10-12 September 16 organisations active in the value-chain of TPEG services (Service Providers Toolkit providers Client Manufacturers) gathered from across the globe in the Institut für Rundfunktechnik  (IRT) premises in Munich to perform 3 days of intensive face-to-face testing.

This 1st TPEG Testfest which was jointly organised by ERTICO and by TISA follows a series of interoperability test events already organised by ERTICO in the scope of various ITS services (cooperative mobility eCall). The event aimed at providing the framework for one-to-one testing and live debugging with clearly defined use-cases and a systematic record of the learning points. The test cases focused mainly on the implementation of TPEG Applications currently defined in TISA Specifications which are soon to become worldwide Standards: TPEG-SNI (TISA Specification SP11014 to become ISO/TS 18234-3) TPEG-TEC (TISA Specification SP11016 to become ISO/TS 18234-9) TPEG-TFP (TISA Specification SP10036 to become ISO/TS 21219-18) and the TPEG DAB adaptation layer (TISA specification SP10008).

Among all executed Test Cases the level of interoperability has proven good with an average success rate of 87%. In addition to this interoperability assessment the event also provided the TISA Community with extremely valuable feedback on the interpretation of the standards and how they could be refined in the future to ensure an even more consistent implementation of the TPEG technology across the whole value-chain worldwide.

Overall the participants’ satisfaction was excellent and Matthias Unbehaun TISA Executive Director Designate commented “this initiative was a success which should pave the way for future activities aiming at assessing and continuously improving the compliance between TPEG clients and TPEG services. Given the maturity level reached by the TPEG technology today the timing was perfect for this first TPEG Testfest”. A similar Testfest is already in preparation and should take place in spring 2013.

Testfest is a generic testing service provided by ERTICO to carry out Interoperability test event for ITS standards implementations. This new testing service is part of the ERTICO strategy to efficiently ensure interoperability and thus enable the deployment of ITS systems and services.

About TISA
TISA is a market-driven membership association with worldwide scope established as a not for-profit company focussed on proactive implementation of traffic and travel information services and products based on existing standards including primarily RDS-TMC (Radio Data Signal – Traffic Message Channel) and TPEG (Transport Protocol Experts Group) technologies.

TISA supports the maintenance and development of standardised technologies leading to economic implementation and rapid market acceptance across a wide range of travel information services and products. In addition to road traffic information for example public transport points of interest weather and environmental data will continue to be in the TISA focus of important topic areas.

About TPEG
TPEG (Transport Protocol Experts Group) is a protocol offering the toolkit and the applications for transmitting digital multimodal traffic and travel information regardless of client type location or required delivery channel (e.g. DAB HD radio Internet DVB-x DMB GPRS Wi-Fi). Language independence has also been a prime principle in the design. The TPEG specifications are developed and maintained by TISA before worldwide standardisation by ISO.
