In the realm of European transport innovation, the STREnGth_M project stands as a beacon of collaborative effort and strategic planning, shaping the future of road transport. This EU Coordination and Support Action (CSA), whose acronym stands for “Stimulating road Transport Research in Europe and around the Globe for sustainable Mobility”, is a significant support action to ERTRAC, the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council  and the 2Zero Partnership, focusing on identifying and analysing various road mapping mechanisms for road transport, laying the groundwork for how these mechanisms might evolve in the future. At its heart, the project recognises that engagement with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds is paramount in ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive approach to road mapping.

Over the past year, the project has researched roadmapping methods and contributed to several ERTRAC activities, including discussion papers and the successful RTR Conferences (Results from Road Transport Research) in 2023 and 2024. Moving forward, current work managed by ERTICO is focusing on the road transport research and innovation landscape across the EU-27 and its synergies and complementarity with EU-level objectives and programmes.

In parallel, a Multiplier Group within STREnGth_M is being created in order to extend the reach of the consortium, to promote interaction between national and EU research programmes and to validate key project outputs. This emphasis on expertise and collaboration underscores the project’s commitment to fostering innovation and driving meaningful change within the transport sector.

At its core, STREnGth_M serves as a pivotal link between the research community, EU Member States, the European Commission and other road transport stakeholders. By coordinating and collecting information, the project supports research and innovation initiatives, advises on policy and strategy, and fosters the co-creation of synergies.
