TISA is expanding in South America welcoming Poyecto Mapear – Mapas Electronicos Argentinos as a new member. This non-profit Argentina-based organisation has been producing free cartography for the past 7 years and it is currently covering – in addition to Argentina – Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay.
With nearly 900,000 registered users and maps compatible with TomTom, Garmin and Papago, Proyecto Mapear is the main reference for GPS in Latin America.
In 2010 the Argentinean organisation has helped to produce maps of Haiti in two days for the rescue crews after the earthquake, while it maps have been used by the Argentinean Navy and Army for logistical purposes.
