DATEX II and the ERTICO TN-ITS innovation platform signed a Cooperation Agreement during the 16th the ITS European Congress 2025 in Seville, marking a new chapter in their collaborative efforts to streamline road and traffic data standards in Europe. The cooperation agreement builds upon the NAPCORELisbon declaration’ signed in 2023, to enhance data exchange and interoperability by merging DATEX II and TN-ITS into one single standard.

This Cooperation Agreement strengthens the integration of TN-ITS into DATEX II data exchange standards, paving the way for a unified approach to sharing road and traffic data. By consolidating their efforts, the two initiatives aim to simplify the processes for data providers and users, ensuring more consistent and reliable information for public authorities, road operators, and technology developers.

Building on the NAPCORE Initiative

Frank Daems, TN-ITS coordinator reflected on the journey leading to this milestone: “Two years ago, we signed the Declaration of Lisbon between TN-ITS and DATEX II under the NAPCORE agreement, committing to align the standards. That moment marked the integration of two major data standards in automotive traffic management under the RTTI delegated regulation. Today, as a follow-up, we have gone much further. Martin van Ekelenburg, representing DATEX II (for Bard De Vries, chair), and Christian Kleine, president of  TN-ITS, have agreed on a Cooperation Agreement. This joint effort sets the foundation for further developing, deploying, and promoting the unified standard while establishing a shared governance system. It’s a significant achievement for everyone involved.”

Participants at the ITS European Congress were encouraged to visit the ERTICO and NAPCORE stand to learn more about the Cooperation Agreement and its implications for the future of road and traffic data.

About DATEX II

With Version 3, DATEX II is now at the heart of connectivity, supporting the digitalisation and exchange of road traffic and travel information. Next to important updates implemented for national road operators and service providers, DATEX II has broadened its focus to the domains of urban mobility, electromobility charging infrastructure, logistics, electronic traffic regulations and cooperative, connected and automated mobility.

About TN-ITS

ERTICO is the host of the TN-ITS multistakeholder innovation platform, with members representing over 90% of the world’s business in digital maps.
