Game-changing ITS technologies of tomorrow have the potential to help cities and regions drive innovation and implement new mobility solutions for the benefit of the wider public. The ITS European Congress in Lisbon will host a Smart Mobility Summit of Cities and Regions in response to the need for local and regional policymakers and administrators to come together and exchange information about knowledge gaps and discuss potential ITS and Smart Mobility solutions

Talking to peers in an open dialogue and sharing lessons learned are important stepping-stones to finding solutions for cities and regions.  The Summit, on Monday, 22 May, will facilitate an open exchange of ideas and best practices, allowing participants to learn about the hottest topics in ITS. Beyond the networking opportunities, one of the benefits of this year’s ITS Summit is to ensure that policymakers can also witness first-hand the latest innovations and research in the field of ITS. Following the discussion, the broader ITS community will have access to key highlights in a dedicated summary report published on the Congress website.

Unfolding the 2023 Lisbon Summit

The ITS European Congress is the largest of its kind in terms of covering transport and mobility topics and the range of different sectors and domains represented. In this regard, the Smart Mobility Summit agenda will focus on an exchange of ideas through various thematic table discussions. Participating cities and regions will have the opportunity to preview some of the leading-edge practical mobility solutions exhibited at the Lisbon Congress. In addition, there will be a presentation by the European Commission (EC) on the significance of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) agenda and how the EC is funding such initiatives in cities through innovation projects.

“ITS congresses are the most important events of the year in the ITS sector. In the presentations and panel discussions, you will hear the latest high-level policies, new information, research results and good practices. During the congress week, the city of Tampere and ITS Factory will be offered a lot of networking and cooperation opportunities,” says Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, Mayor of the City of Tampere.

The Congress programme will combine research, innovation and deployment interests through a cross-cutting high-level programme, focused technical sessions, exhibitions, and live demonstrations. By participating in Congress, public authorities can also objectively observe and interact with innovators creating services and products that could be directly beneficial for their city or region.

Kindly note that the ITS Summit is upon invitation only.
