The future for UK ports- infrastructure, policy and the shape of the market
January 31, 2019
This seminar will be a timely opportunity to discuss priorities for the port sector, as the UK prepares to leave the EU. The seminar will examine issues for policy, technology and infrastructure, as well as exploring the future of trade and competition.
Key stakeholders and policymakers will assess factors relating to Brexit, which are expected to affect the position of UK ports. The seminar will discuss the future of trade, customs arrangements and border controls, including the potential for digital borders. The wider challenges for international freight and port health authorities will also be considered.
The agenda also includes discussion of port diversification and local regeneration, as well as discussion of the policy priorities for developing port infrastructure. Road and rail links and further regional connectivity will also be examined.
Discussion will draw on the Department for Transport’s study into port connectivity and the conference will be an opportunity to consider the National Infrastructure Commission’s interim report into the future of freight following its expected publication later this year.
