As an associate member of EGVIAfor2ZERO, ERTICO is committed to supporting the 2ZERO Partnership’s mission to achieve carbon-neutral road transport across Europe. Among several initiatives contributing to this vision, the LeMesurier project stands out for its role in ensuring that the impact of 2ZERO is measurable and aligned with policy objectives. Recently, the project held a key technical workshop that marked significant progress in assessing the Partnership’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Coordinated by Ricardo and E3-Modelling, and supported by partners such as ERTICO, the LeMesurier project is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) designed to measure the success of the 2ZERO Partnership by measuring the KPIs outlines in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), which lays out the roadmap for a carbon-neutral transport system by 2050. LeMesurier provides a solid framework for evaluating indicators, both at the level of individual projects (Direct KPIs) and for the Partnership’s overall impact (Compound KPIs). This dual approach ensures that research and innovation efforts are not only aligned with strategic objectives but also lead to measurable change.

Compound KPIs: A modelling framework in action

A highlight in LeMesurier’s recent progress was a technical workshop held on 20 March at the ERTRAC office in Brussels. The event brought together key stakeholders from the European Commission –CINEA, DG RTD, DG CLIMA and the Joint Research Centre (JRC)-, and 2ZERO, to validate and refine the methodology behind the Compound KPIs.

Led by EMISIA, the workshop focused on the advanced modelling framework developed by LeMesurier. Three key vehicle parc (fleet) models (COPERT/SIBYL, PRIMES/TREMOVE, and MOVEID) are used to simulate energy consumption and emissions scenarios between 2025 and 2035, using 2019–2020 as the baseline. These simulations are tailored to different types of vehicles, from heavy-duty trucks to L-category vehicles. By considering real-world variables such as speed, vehicle load, temperature, and configuration, the framework allows for a robust assessment of how 2ZERO-funded activities perform under realistic conditions.

LeMesurier has collected information on KPIs and measurement processes of 25 projects funded under 2ZERO, with upcoming reports that will give the results of the direct KPI contribution assessment, as well as a visualisation of the KPI progression over time. However, it is important to note that LeMesurier is not evaluating these projects but rather assessing the overall 2ZERO outcomes and impacts.

Laying the ground for the future

As the EU advances toward its zero-emission targets, LeMesurier helps ensure that the 2ZERO Partnership delivers not only promising technologies but also verified impact. Its framework will support better policymaking, clearer investment strategies, and ultimately, more sustainable outcomes, enabling Europe’s transition to carbon-neutral road transport.

Through projects such as NextETRUCK, eBRT2030, ZEV-UP, ePowerMove, and LeMesurier, all funded under the 2Zero Partnership, ERTICO and the project partners are contributing to 2ZERO’s objectives from different angles.
