The ENVELOPE project is officially launching its Open Call, offering third-party experimenters a unique opportunity to access ENVELOPE testbeds and secure funding to advance 6G experimentation and validate vertical use cases.
The ENVELOPE project is a Horizon Europe initiative dedicated to transforming 5G architecture into a vertical-oriented framework tailored to Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) use cases. Running from January 2024 to December 2026, ENVELOPE focuses on developing interfaces and infrastructures that support advanced experimentation and innovation in the mobility sector.
Key Details of Open Call 1
Funding and Participation
- Total Budget: €1,350,000
- Maximum Grant Per Project: Up to €300,000 (with a cap of €60,000 per beneficiary)
- Eligibility: Consortia comprising SMEs, research institutes, and universities. At least 50% of the consortium members must be SMEs. Each consortium may include up to five legal beneficiaries from EU member states or countries associated with Horizon Europe.

- Feasibility Check Deadline: 15 June 2025
- Final Submission Deadline: 31 July 2025
Target Audience ENVELOPE seeks applications from:

- Startups
Applying consortia can include research institutes or universities. Each consortium must consist of 5 legal beneficiaries maximum.
Open Call Objectives
Participants in Open Call 1 are encouraged to:
- Demonstrate Reusability: Utilise ENVELOPE APIs and Enablers to validate the platform’s functionality and showcase its potential for third-party stakeholders and other verticals.
- Extend Infrastructure: Design, develop, and integrate additional functionalities to expand ENVELOPE’s experimental capabilities, potentially tailored to specific industries beyond the automotive sector.
Information on the ENVELOPE APIs and Enablers is provided in the documents available here. The case study where these APIs/Enablers will be applied can either be related to the automotive sector or on another vertical domain.
Mandatory Feasibility Check
All applicants must undergo a Feasibility Check by submitting a detailed description of their planned experiments to the ENVELOPE helpdesk (helpdesk@lists.envelope-project.eu) using the provided template. This step is critical for receiving initial feedback and ensuring alignment with the project’s scope. Proposals that do not pass the Feasibility Check will not be eligible for final submission.

Selection and Implementation Timeline
- Evaluation and Selection: 1 August – 30 September 2025
- Subgrant Agreement Preparation: 1 October – 30 November 2025
- Project Implementation: 1 December 2025 – 30 June 2026
