The city of Prague last week introduced new legislation for companies wishing to start carsharing schemes in the city.
Councillors drafted a document with 13 requirements, including that the operator must be a legal entity, that the car must be available 24 hours a day, and that the average age of the fleet must not be more than 4 years.
Other requirements state that the company must create a public registration and online booking system (including on mobile apps), that vehicles must comply with the Euro 5 emissions standard and the service must be available in at least 10 areas of Prague.
The city will allow carsharing scheme operators access to the city’s blue zones – parking zones for residents – in 2018.
Until then, the document states, operators will need to prepare a functional system that will ‘benefit society’ and that allows easy access of the vehicles in paid parking zones.
