The Irish city of Cork is to benefit from the introduction of a new public transport smartcard system. The system, known as ‘Leap’ already has 270,000 users in the capital Dublin, accounting for 20% of all journey’s made. 

The announcement was made during the official opening of the Intelligent Transport Systems Congress at the Convention Center in Dublin. 

As the Irish Daily Business Post reports, “Murphy also announced a new route mapper enhancement to the National Transport Authority’s Journey Planner, an integration of the Journey Planner with Northern Ireland’s planner, an agreement with Google to make all of the National Transport Authority’s journey planning data readily available to members of the public through Google transit, and a new cycle planner for Dublin.”
