Intelligent mobility of people and goods is the focus of the 12th ITS European Congress which started today in Strasbourg in the presence of Cees de Wijs, Chairman of ERTICO – ITS Europe, the Mayor of Strasbourg Roland Ries, the President of Eurométropole de Strasbourg Robert Herrmann, and Christophe Boutin, Deputy Executive Director of the French Motorway Companies (ASFA).

The event is organised by ERTICO – ITS Europe in partnership with the European Commission and hosted by the City and Eurometropolis of Strasbourg from 19 to 22 June 2017 at the Strasbourg Convention Centre (Palais de la Musique et des Congres de Strasbourg). This year’s Congress is opening its doors to more than 2,500 delegates and it’s focused on “ITS Beyond Borders”. This is the largest ITS event of the year with 100 plenaries and workshops, 6 live outdoors demonstrations and 120 exhibitors, who will showcase their Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) solutions at the Strasbourg Convention Centre and Exhibition Centre.

“Over the past two decades, we have gone through rapid technological and policy changes. From first steps in research, we are now to full deployment of ITS” Cees De Wijs, Chairman of ERTICO, stated in his opening speech. “The innovations demonstrated here show the latest developments in technologies and services that will need to operate across borders and throughout Europe. This is why this year’s conference theme is so relevant for all.”

Violeta Bulc, European Commission for Transport sent a welcome video highlighting that “ITS is a very effective tool to address the negative effects of road transport; in particular accidents and transport emission. ITS solutions create the basis for new value added services and business models, and improve efficiency in value networks”.

High-level features for this year event are three Plenary Sessions discussing Mobility across borders, Smart cities and future ports, and Cooperative, connected and automated mobility. The Mayor Summit and Energy Summit will be hosted at the Congress on Wednesday, 21 June.
