The IPv6 Forum, established in 2018 as the New Internet IPv6 Hall of Fame, recognises and celebrates experts and evangelists of IPv6 who have made extraordinary contributions to the design and large-scale deployment of IPv6 worldwide. In the most recent edition, on Monday 16th December 2024, ERTICO’s Head of Transport for Logistics, Dr Eusebiu Catana, had the honour of receiving the award for his active contribution and leadership in the technical development of several innovative projects, including 5G-LOGINNOV, 3DxVERSE and O-CEI.

The global scope of these projects helps to accelerate the adoption of key technologies, including the integration of emerging concepts like Information-Centric Networking and scaling of Cloud-Edge-IoT solutions, strengthening the open strategic autonomy, promoting multi-sided marketplaces, and fostering open standards for virtualisation and interoperability for the mobility of goods and mobility of passengers. This will also help to optimise resources across the edge-to-cloud computing continuum to support diverse applications and services related to the mobility of goods and passengers. These advancements are instrumental in facilitating the widespread deployment of IPv6, helping to shape the future of networking.

“I am deeply honoured to be nominated and selected alongside the most distinguished IPv6 experts and advocates, recognizing my contributions to the pivotal transition from IPv4 to IPv6. My work has focused on driving the adoption of key technologies, including integrating emerging concepts like Information-Centric Networking (ICN) and enhancing Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) to support non-unicast transport mechanisms. These advancements are instrumental in facilitating the widespread deployment of IPv6, helping to shape the future of networking,” comments Dr. Eusebiu Catana, Head of Transport for Logistics at ERTICO and New Internet IPv6 Hall of Famer.

“The IPv6 Forum is very blessed and proud to have attracted and won some of the finest and top IPv6 pioneers, experts and genuine volunteers around the world, quoting Vint Cerf, to upgrade the Internet from a “Research” Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) to a “Production” Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) to sustain the growth of the Internet to include everyone and connect any sensible device” stated Latif Ladid, IPv6 Forum President.

The prime objective of the IPv6 Forum and its members is to promote deployment and coordinated uptake of the new Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) with support from industry, education, research communities and government agencies enabling equitable access to technology and knowledge.

The Internet World has been using the Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) for the last three decades. Despite its tremendous success, IPv4 is showing signs of strain, especially in its depleted IP address space and its growing security and privacy concerns. IPv6 preserves everything good in today’s Internet and adds much more, such as virtually unlimited IP address space to connect everyone and everything, stateless auto-configuration, seamless mobility, automated network management, end-to-end security features and new optional service levels.

About IPv6 Forum: The IPv6 Forum is a worldwide consortium of international Internet service providers (ISPs) and National Research & Education Networks (NRENs), with a mission to promote IPv6 by improving market and user awareness, creating a quality and secure New Generation Internet and allowing world-wide equitable access to knowledge and technology.  The key focus of the IPv6 Forum is to provide technical guidance for the deployment of IPv6.   IPv6 Summits are organised by the IPv6  Forum and staged in various locations around the world to provide industry and market with the best available information on this rapidly advancing technology. First kicked off in 2018 in Nanjing at the IPv6 Forum/ GNTC Conference organised by the China IPv6 Council and coordinated by the BII Group with the first IPv6 Hall of Famers: Dr Vint Cerf, VP and Internet Evangelist at Google and Honorary Chair of the IPv6 Forum since its creation; Dr Wu Hequan, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Dr Jun Murai, Father of the Internet in Japan and Founder of the IPv6 Promotion Council.
