Each year, ERTICO grants cities in Europe and around the world the unique opportunity to be the host of the ITS European or World Congresses. With the bidding period now closed, it is time to meet the candidates!

The city of Padua, Seville and Toulouse are keen to host the ITS European Congress in 2022 or 2023, whilst Dubai, Birmingham and Zurich have applied to host the ITS World Congress in 2024.

Cities like Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Copenhagen or Eindhoven are all good examples of how mobility solutions implemented during an ITS Congress still continue to be used today and continue to benefit users.

“The solutions implemented in the host city of one of our Congresses stay on”, said ERTICO CEO Jacob Bangsgaard. “During the 2018 ITS World Congress in Copenhagen, for instance, together with local public authorities and suppliers we launched a MaaS application that is still in use today. Another good example was the 2015 ITS World Congress in Bordeaux, where we ran many tests on C-ITS. Such solutions are still being used in the city, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions and improving emergency services “.

Applying to become the host of an ITS Congress is a good chance for stakeholders in a country to come together and set a solid basis for future collaboration.

Good luck to all the applicant cities!
