ERTICO is launching its ambitious City Moonshot – a global survey and a series of interviews that will consult 300 cities world-wide about their smart mobility challenges, needs and trends. This insightful survey will focus on three topics in the sector: data sharing, Mobility as a Service, and policy priorities on sustainability and the role of transport. ERTICO is inviting cities across the world to participate and gain an up-to-date understanding about other cities, their mobility challenges and solutions through the final report. The highly anticipated key findings will be publicly presented at the ITS World Congress 2021 in Hamburg.

“Through the launch of this initiative we are answering the call of ERTICO Partners from both public authorities and the industry who wish to see a faster uptake of smart mobility solutions. By gaining valuable insights and better understanding of the needs of cities we can make a real impact in the daily lives of citizens and ensure the creation of a more efficient, more sustainable and safer future mobility system for all”, says Jacob Bangsgaard, ERTICO’s CEO.

“I’m looking forward to assisting the ERTICO team in the implementation of the City Moonshot interviews. I’m very confident that it will help cities learn from best practices and challenge them to accelerate their de-carbonisation plans”, says Marshall Poulton, Head of Transport Strategy at Glasgow City Council.

“In Berlin, we continuously research, develop and apply innovative solutions for future mobility. We are very keen to share our experience and also learn from the expertise of other cities. ERTICO´s City Moonshot will increase the transfer of knowledge and we look forward to participating“, says Gernot Lobenberg, Director of Berlin Agency for Electromobility eMO.

Besides being featured in the final report, participating cities gain access to exclusive webinars, the ERTICO Academy training programme and the chance to connect with the extensive ITS community.

Why cities?

According to the UN[1], by 2050, 68 percent of the world’s population will be living in cities. By 2030, the world will have more than 40 megacities with more than 10 million inhabitants, most of them in developing regions. Digitalisation offers many opportunities to make our cities smarter, especially with regards to mobility.

“City engagement is a top priority for ERTICO and its 120 Partners. Our strong public-private Partnership pushes forward the latest innovation and mobility solutions that offer a range of benefits for cities. The City Moonshot will engage cities, inspire innovation and empower citizens. All topics in this survey have been chosen with city priorities in mind – we and 300 cities are ready to take off!  Will you join us?” concludes Aleksandra Maj, Manager Clean and Urban Mobility at ERTICO.
