On 18 February 2020, the European TRWP (Tyre and Road Wear Particles) Platform organised a roundtable to gather the latest updates on scientific knowledge and mitigation actions on tyre and road wear particles. In response to the current debate on microplastics from tyre and road wear, the European TRWP Platform was launched in July 2018 by ETRMA, the European Tyre & Rubber Manufacturers Association, to address with relevant stakeholders how to prevent and mitigate the generation and transportation of tyre and road wear particles (TRWP) in the environment. After one year the Platform published the ‘Way Forward Report’.
In this context the EU project MODALES (“Modify Drivers’ behaviour to Adapt for Lower Emissions”) coordinated by ERTICO was presented by Jean-Charles Pandazis (ERTICO) and Alessandro Cascini (Bridgestone). MODALES has raised great interest as this is the first major action to consider all types of emissions from road vehicles (not only exhaust emissions) and how changes in the behaviour of vehicle owner and drivers can contribute to improving air quality.
