During the ITS World Congress in Hamburg, participants will have the opportunity to experience the digitalisation process of transport networks and infrastructure through ERTICO’s projects within the focus area: Transport & Logistics.
ERTICO’s vision within the area of Transport and Logistics is to increase interoperability, connectivity in the optimisation of cargo flows, and to facilitate supply chain management, whilst making better use of existing resources. By 2030, ERTICO’s goal is to achieve seamless logistics and freight transport and nearer to 2025, achieve full digitalisation and automation of freight and logistics operations.
Given the importance of Hamburg’s role as an international port, freight and logistics, ERTICO is co-organising the second Global Forum on Freight and Ports: From the factory to your front door, which takes place on Wednesday 13 October at 2:00 PM (CET) in CCH – Room X2. Mr Zeljko Jeftic, I&D Deputy Director at ERTICO, will moderate the forum divided into two workshops. The two workshops will allow the attendees to understand the negative or positive impact on their local economy that relies heavily on the ITS professional’s understanding of their role in considering freight movement needs. The first discusses port initiatives leading to environmental improvements and describes partnerships with local transportation agencies to utilise ITS to advance safety, minimise traffic disruptions, and improve regional air quality. The second workshop highlights the role of ITS in the logistical operations necessary to transport materials from the assembly line to the distribution centre to the local delivery operation to the final customer using the Just-In-Time delivery service that customers demand, expect, rely upon, and enjoy.
