Kapsch TrafficCom announces significant progress in the ÖTS3 project in cooperation with the Swedish Transport Administration Trafikverket.
Following the successful completion of the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT), the project has reached a key milestone, bringing Sweden closer to a state-of-the-art traffic signal management system.
The ÖTS3 project, which will replace the previous ÖTS2 system, includes the implementation of Kapsch TrafficCom’s innovative EcoTrafiX™ solution. This upgrade will improve Trafikverket’s ability to control and monitor approximately 360 traffic signals nationwide, ensuring greater efficiency and reliability in traffic management.
By introducing EcoTrafiX™, which is adapted to Nordic standards, the system ensures seamless integration with existing infrastructure while setting new benchmarks for efficiency and reliability in traffic signal control.
Important milestones achieved
FAT and SAT are key milestones in the project, demonstrating that the technology provided by Kapsch TrafficCom is working as intended. The FAT process included a variety of functionalities, including system testing, user management and system integration with Trafikverket’s National Transport Support System. The SAT phase confirmed the functionality of the system under real-life conditions and included several ad-hoc tests, requests and performance evaluations from the customer.
Project scope and long-term vision
The ÖTS3 initiative comprises three main phases:
- Delivery and testing: comprehensive project management, installation, commissioning and integration with Trafikverket’s operating systems.
- Implementation: System configuration and deployment for all traffic signal systems to ensure operational readiness.
- Maintenance and support: Ongoing system operation, preventive maintenance and technical support for a minimum of four years with extension options.
This collaboration between Kapsch TrafficCom and Trafikverket represents a significant step forward in traffic management innovation and positions Sweden as a pioneer in the use of technology to improve traffic infrastructure.
