Way back in the spring, amid safety concerns due to the global pandemic, ERTICO – ITS Europe and the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan postponed the 1st Central Eastern ITS Congress to 19-21 September 2022. The opportunity for knowledge share on the region is not lost however. The Government of the Republic of Tatarstan and the City of Kazan are hosting KAZAN DIGITAL WEEK from September 21-24, 2020 and will be welcoming international ITS players virtually to view the region’s smart mobility solutions. ERTICO CEO Jacob Bangsgaard will play a crucial role in the activities, including Kazan Digital Week’s Opening Ceremony.

Panel discussions, exhibition and technical tours, sightseeing views, opening and closing ceremonies, as well as a range of networking possibilities, all held in a virtual format from the comfort of your own office will be an essential part of the activities offered by Kazan during this ITS-packed digital week. More than 100 online exhibitors and 250 speakers from 26 countries will discuss prominent issues. Particularly in focus will be cybersecurity issues including an overview of world and Russian trends, highlights on the latest technologies in the banking sector and the most recent business innovations, as well as playing host to the ITS Forum. The Forum Programme includes 4 high-level round tables, 37 sections, 5 workshop sections and 14 technical tours.

“Kazan is at the heart of IT development in Russia.” says Jacob Bangsgaard, ERTICO CEO. “When it comes to smart mobility solutions, Kazan is very strongly focused on new technologies. Those participating will see things being done in a new, different way. From there, I have gained several ideas on how we could do things differently in the rest of Europe. I think everyone working in smart mobility can learn from this region.”

Kazan Digital Week will also offer participants a sneak preview of what is to come in the future when the 1st Central Eastern ITS Congress takes place hosted by ERTICO-ITS Europe and the region in 2022. This ITS Congress will offer attendees the opportunity to experience first-hand innovations such as the Glonass system (the country’s version of GPS) plus the creation of Innopolis, a newly-built smart city close to Kazan, where tech giant Yandex tests autonomous vehicles.

“The Central Eastern countries have long been waiting for an opportunity to present their progress. Kazan Digital Week offers Tatarstan and the region an opportunity to showcase its progress in ITS before we are all able to meet again in 2022 at the Central Eastern ITS Congress.” says Jacob Bangsgaard, ERTICO CEO. “Here at ERTICO, we are delighted to be able to support the Republic of Tatarstan and the City of Kazan in their efforts to push forward innovation”.
